Did you know that in the year 2008 the area relating to financial services was responsible for nearly one out of every six of the layoffs that occurred? Amazing as it might sound it is one hundred percent true. That sector of the job market was hit inordinately hard with the financial and economic issues that the country was faced with in 2008. So what kind of things can you do if you were one of the unlucky one out of six hit with this economic downturn and are facing all sorts of questions that need answering? Well there are a few options that you can consider and we're going to discuss them right now.

The first thing that you can do is that you can go out and try to manage the financial risks for some one else. Just because you were unlucky where you were doesn't mean that things are all out of kilter around the country. If you look you can most likely find another place to do your job.

Another option that is available to you would be to get into business for yourself. Let's face it everyone dreams of being their own boss and a set-back like this could be just the kick in the pants that you need to get out and start your own thing.

You can also utilize your accumulated skill set to move into another option like financial planning. Taking time to show people how to not get into trouble and how to plan for the time if it occurs.

The federal government is getting more and more into the financial ends of things and as a result there are many job openings in this portion of the industry with our very own government in Washington.

You can also do a little research and see where the markets are doing better than where you are. Getting away from the coasts into the heartland can help and a move might greatly improve your possibilities.

You've been in the business for a good bit of time. So why not take that skill you have learned and become a recruiter for a company? The more the market changes the more they will need to find qualified individuals to fill those positions.

Going back to school and retraining and / or getting more or better skills are also a viable option here. It will cost you a little money today but could pay good dividends down the line after you complete it.

Look into which industries or portions of the industry is growing, such as mortgage restructuring and FHA loan and tailor your abilities to that portion of the industry.

You can also just sit still and try and ride the whole thing out and hope that once the current wave or storm has settled down you can pick up where you left off.

The final option would be just to pack up from this career and to find something else that interests you and has good prospects and attempt a mid life career change into a totally different industry.
