Global Procurement is a corporate strategic sourcing group that serves BMS's global business units by identifying and executing sourcing strategies to meet their needs. Beginning with concise specifications and well-planned negotiations, Procurement strives to maximize contract value while maintaining strict quality standards. Procurement continuously works with strategic suppliers to develop and capture additional value within the supply chain through productivity initiatives and supplier collaboration.
This Senior Associate role will collaborate with and support the Laboratory Operations Category Managers to optimize the operational aspects of laboratory equipment, supplies, and consumables procurement across both Research and Early Development (R&ED)and Global Product Development & Supply (GPS), utilizing a basic working knowledge of the subject matter and category strategies established within the group. The role supports a complex mix of channels, SKUs, suppliers, and stakeholders across multiple business units and is expected to ensure close alignment to business priorities and functional objectives. Communication with broad stakeholder groups, from scientists to operations and quality teams, is critical for this role.
Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Partner with key stakeholders and liaise with scientists and suppliers to resolve recurrent/ trending supply issues for laboratory supplies, consumables, and equipment
Support Category Leads with category strategy development, ensuring that critical inputs from stakeholders (internal and supplier) and real-world observations inform the category strategies
Manage junior level category strategy development under the supervision of the Category Leads
Address infrastructural issues within supply centers, point of use locations, kiosks, and other channels that could impact the procurement and delivery of goods or services
Facilitate the roll-out of key end-to-end enablement tools/systems, processes, and templates that will improve the buying channel experience
Manage data analysis and reporting in collaboration with business analytics and reporting groups (e.g. Sourcing Excellence, Business Analytics), as required
Ensure clear understanding of Global Procurement initiatives and deliverables associated with them, to support effective roll-out and implementation
Identify operational risks in the relevant categories and develop appropriate risk management and mitigation activities
Drive continuous improvement of category strategies by providing critical feedback and facilitating discussions of best practices
Support the execution of critical R&ED agreements for strategic projects
Qualifications:
B.S./B.A. in science or engineering
Minimum of 4-5 years of business or related experience
Minimum of 2-3 years of procurement experience, or related laboratory operations experience
Minimum of 1-year of Pharmaceutical Procurement experience, or working directly with Pharmaceutical Procurement teams or relevant experience
Expertise in procurement processes, technology and systems (such as Ariba), contract and supplier analysis and management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier diversity, strategic planning and integrated supply chain.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and MS Excel skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point
Proven ability to manage multiple projects/tasks effectively
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, ambiguous environment
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S., M.B.A., M.A., or equivalent Master’s degree in science, business administration, operations management, engineering, finance, or another related technical field
Professional certifications (e.g. CPM, CPIM, CSCP).
1-2 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
Membership in Professional Associations, e.g. ISM
