Who We Are BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients. Sr. Portfolio Manager – Commercial Production (MSAT)SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONThis position reports to the Director, Head of Novato MSAT and the Gene Therapy Center of Excellence and is responsible for the leadership and management of global projects intended to improve pCOGS of commercial products. This role will be accountable to drive progress on significant business objectives and frequently interface with executive leadership. In this individual contributor role, the candidate will manage various yield improvement and robustness projects across a portfolio of commercial products including Enzyme Replacement and Gene Therapies, focused on drug substance, drug product, and finished goods at both internal and external manufacturing sites.The candidate will work closely with various key stakeholders from a wide cross section of the business - including but not limited to project owners, sponsors, product technical owners, CMC leads, and site MSAT, and financial leads to identify key initiatives and manage the delivery of the various business critical projects over the long-range plan. The candidate will need to remove barriers to execution across the portfolio of critical projects by exercising influential leadership, resource modelling, and problem-solving skills. The role will require the candidate to be an excellent team player and communicate project-related updates, challenges, and mitigations in a clear and concise way with frequent executive leadership interaction. A strong candidate for this role will be able to build this cross functional network, develop relationships, and nurture there connections into value adding partnerships.The role will also require the candidate to reduce the complexity of the various technical challenges by partnering with product technical owners and refining the financial models in partnership with finance leads to reflect the year over year progress on pCOGS and process, method, and equipment robustness initiatives.Prior experience in managing or leading technical projects, tracking timelines, and operational excellence skills will be essential for being successful in the role.In this role specifically, in addition to the DIAL attributes (Decision Making, Influence, Agility, and Leadership) we expect all our people managers and technical leaders to create a psychologically safe (note, psychological safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes) place for everyone across all teams.RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership of a global, multi-year initiative comprised of various projects across manufacturing sites and modalitiesDesign, facilitation, and reporting of workshops to develop initiative agenda and project lists.Must be able to lead a cross functional group of technical SMEs, business leaders, finance, and supporting functions through strategy vetting and prioritization by ranking projects using hard business measurements and aligning to established organizational objectivesPreparation and leadership of various standard governance forums including weekly core team meetings, monthly steering committee meetings and workshops as needed. This includes creation of content, support of team members, alignment content with leadership and stakeholders, distributing pre-reads, and meeting minutes.Represent the initiative at global objective progress meetings and standing executive leadership forumsCreate and manage the overall project plan, resource model, and financial updatesOwn change management and communicationsRefreshing and realignment of governance as needed based on initiative lifecycle, priorities, and stakeholder feedback.Remove roadblocks for project leads, provide resources, and hold all leads and sponsors and accountable for delivery of commitmentsOther duties as assigned SCOPEThe candidate will lead multiple global initiatives and manage the commercial technical agenda portfolio. The position is required to successfully manage the effort and stakeholders as progress is made in support of significant business objectives. EDUCATIONBachelor of Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) degree, or higher, in a technical discipline (physical, engineering, chemical or biological sciences) is required. A master’s in business administration (MBA) is preferredTraining in project management is preferredEXPERIENCE8 years experience in a cGMP regulated manufacturing environment, with exhibited knowledge or proficiency in a manufacturing or manufacturing support function (MSAT, engineering, business ops, etc.)2 years experience in a position utilizing formal project management a plus.Organizational and management skills to coordinate multi-discipline project groupsExcellent ability to effectively communicate up, down, and across levels including executive leadership.Ability to communicate with, present data to, and defend approaches in front of variable hierarchical audiences. Ability to quickly present complex topics catered to the current audience.Proficiency with standard office software applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Power Point.
