Description

The Senior Financial Reporting Professional will serve as the subject matter expert for the Company's reinsurance portfolio. This will involve close collaboration with teams internal to Humana as well as the third party reinsurers. This position will ensure that all accounting, administrative and all other reporting duties are performed accurately and timely on both a GAAP & Statutory accounting basis.

Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Reporting Professional ensures all reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and organization policies. Prepares consolidation journal entries, eliminates intercompany transactions and consolidates divisional and subsidiary financial accounts in a timely and accurate basis for inclusion in internal and external financial statements. Begins to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Responsibilities:

Identifies, researches and resolves any discrepancies associated with out of balance situations for reinsurance general ledger activity

Completes monthly, quarterly & annual financial reporting, including annual Schedule S reporting

Perform ongoing analysis of financial performance associated with reinsurance portfolio

Preparation of financial footnote information and support for both GAAP & Statutory reporting

Reinsurance treaty administration, including cash settlements, validating and analyzing data

Maintains or creates internal documentation for each reinsurance agreement

Researches and provides accounting impacts for new and existing reinsurance agreements

Ability to work closely with internal teams and external organizations

Maintain a control environment that supports complete and accurate financial reporting, including compliance with all internal controls, SOX and regulatory standards

Provide all supporting documentation to internal and external auditors as needed

Identifies and implements improvement opportunities associated with assigned processes (continual automation of journal entries and reconciliations, opportunities to reduce workload or improve quality, etc.)

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

5 or more years of related Finance/Accounting experience

Previous life or health insurance industry experience

Strong analytic skills with attention to details

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel

Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and prioritize appropriately

Must be able to work 'standard' EST or CST business hours

Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

Prior reinsurance experience

Understanding of reinsurance contract language

Statutory filing experience

Accounting research, i.e., GAAP/Statutory

Advanced Microsoft Excel experience
