POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a Lawyer with 5 years’ PQE in commercial litigation and insolvency law. This role sits within the Litigation, Insolvency and Regulatory Group (LIRG) and will work alongside directors, Steven Mattiussi and John Biggs on a breadth of high-quality commercial litigation and insolvency matters.
PRACTICE GROUP OVERVIEW
The LIRG team conducts a broad range of commercial litigation, insolvency and regulatory work in Australia. Areas of specialist expertise include contract disputes; corporations law; shareholder and partnership disputes; trade practices, corporations law, intellectual property, professional negligence, real property, employment and estate law.
In addition, the LIRG team provides advice and a full range of legal services to companies, company administrators, company directors, creditors, receivers and liquidators in relation to asset and debt recovery; bankruptcy; company administration, receivership and liquidation; corporate and personal financial stress; security enforcement; and work-out opportunities.
Main Responsibilities
Day to day carriage of insolvency related Court applications and proceedings including insolvent trading claims, voidable transactions, preference claims and public examinations
Draft bankruptcy notices, statutory demands and subsequent applications for creditor’s petitions or winding up proceedings
Day to day carriage of a broad range of commercial litigation matters including commercial disputes, shareholder disputes, regulatory examinations, investigations and other proceedings
Appear in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and Federal Court of Australia in proceedings of various kinds, both with and without counsel as required
Liaise with and advise clients regarding their rights, obligations, alternatives and prospects
Prepare pleadings, motions, affidavit evidence, subpoenas, notices to produce and other Court documents
Brief, confer with and instruct counsel
Supervise junior lawyers and paralegals

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Holds a current Australian practising certificate with approximately 5 years’ experience as a commercial litigation and insolvency lawyer
Ability to multi-task in support of competing demands and maintain composure
Key understanding and appreciation of the importance of confidentiality in areas of extreme commercial and client sensitivity
Organised and methodical with the ability to multi-task
Self-sufficient with a common-sense approach
High proficiency in MS Office suite
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
