Job Description:
What is the role
This individual will trade term financial and physical gas positions of up to 5 years or longer and be part of a team of traders who manage a gas portfolio comprised of customer business, structured commodity agreements and assets. The individual will work with South Gas team to manage overall portfolio of Fixed price and Basis portfolio exposures across the desk. This individual will participate in activities such as speculative trading, supply and marketing arrangements, product development, asset optimization, model development and risk management activities to preserve value and reduce risk via the use of all traded instrument types available in both OTC and Exchange. This individual must have expert knowledge of market fundamentals, regulatory knowledge of the region and price relationships. The individual will work with other gas and power trading teams to execute Shell Energy Americas overall strategy built around customer business, asset optimization and the speculative trading of Physical and Financial Gas and Power trading within a geographic region.
Accountabilities:
Work with South Gas team to manage overall portfolio positions of Fixed price and Basis exposures across the desk and act as Focal Point for South Region position limits.
The individual in this position is accountable for the profitable trading and risk management of a portfolio within a geographical region.
The individual will have a solid understanding of changing supply/demand fundamentals within a geographic region (for example LNG export projects, pipeline/transmission infrastructure projects, gas production profiles, generation retirements, etc.) in Texas, Mexico, Louisiana and the South East.
Strong focus on Compliance and adherence to Regulatory governance within the region.
Developing comprehensive short to medium -term gas trading strategies.
Deliver individual speculative and aggregate position management generating an annual PnL of around $10 in spec trading and around $20 million in asset/portfolio optimization value while operating within defined risk, credit, and regulatory parameters.
Work with storage, transportation, transmission and production assets to maximize economic returns. Work with traders, marketers and customers in various locations to provide competitive pricing and support.
Work collaboratively with functional and commercial groups including Origination, Fundamentals, Accounting, Operations, Credit, and Risk Management.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics or similar fields or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum of 5-years’ experience trading financial and physical natural gas in the South markets in a trading role.
Expert fundamental knowledge of the South gas market.
Options Trading experience and the ability to understand, trade and manage options.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
Knowledge of fundamental simulation forecasting tools and the manner which these can be used to identify opportunities
