Job Description:

The New Energies team is investing in and developing a portfolio of emerging digital business opportunities which can leverage Shell's core business by using its global reach, physical footprint, customer relationships, and brand.

The Venture Architect will help create new ventures for the Digital Businesses unit, managed through an incubator mode to support continuous rapid delivery and Agile principles of working. The incubations will consist of cross-functional teams including global and local business teams, developers, data scientists, strategic designers, venture architects, SMEs, growth marketers, and external consultants.

The successful candidate should possess a broad base of skills, passion, and knowledge spanning digital technology, strategy, marketing, business planning, business model creation, and an understanding of Agile/lean development practices. They must also possess an entrepreneurial drive to develop new products on tight deadlines, with lean teams and budgets.

Responsibilities:

Provide external insight and perform early stage opportunity identification to help progress chosen concepts through incubation;

Demonstrate leadership and support of new ventures by providing hands-on support in various stages from innovation to incubation, acceleration, and scale;

Help build and launch new ventures, products, and services which align with Shell’s ambitions;

Develop business cases & plans, financial models, and key performance indicators for new ventures;

Identify key value drivers, while also testing and validating associated assumptions;

Quantify market sizing and addressable market for ventures, along with business value and funding models;

Develop the venture launch and go-to-market strategy;

Provide early stage due diligence on start-up companies and participate in the development of investment proposals;

May at times lead/facilitate multidisciplinary teams in ideation workshops, hackathons, and design thinking sessions;

Lead and participate in numerous customer/ethnographic interviews for new, emerging, and incubated concepts.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field;

MBA or relevant Master’s degree is preferred;

8 years of experience with future vision development, strategy development, business planning, and economic modeling.

Experience in a high-pressure start-up environment with exposure to multidisciplinary teams in uncertain environments or related consulting experience is highly preferred;

Track record of stakeholder management, building relationships, and making relevant industry connections;

Demonstrated ability to plan and manage at both a strategic and operational level to successfully launch new products in the market;

Agile Project Management experience is an advantage;

Entrepreneurial and highly external mindset;

Strong communicator across multiple platforms;

Self-driven, and highly motivated to work and lead in a fast-moving environment;

Ability to travel as needed, both domestic and international.
