Job Description:

Where You Fit In -

The Group Reporting team is responsible for producing and analyzing the Groups externally published quarterly and annual financial results, together with management information for executive and non-executive directors. The unit is the guardian of the Group Financial Accounting Policy and advises the businesses on the accounting treatment for major transactions. It also supports the Group planning process. Group Reporting sits within the Group Controllers and Tax organization and supports the Executive Committee (EC), Businesses and Corporate Centre Management.

What’s the role -

The Business Accounting & Analysis team is responsible for advising the businesses on all major Group accounting issues, including the accounting advice on complex M&A transactions, major projects, interpretation of IFRS standards and financial implications of material scenarios within our Global businesses. Where necessary this team writes papers outlining the appropriate accounting treatment and updating the Group accounting policy.

The Business Accounting Advisor serves as a primary focal point for the Group Controllers organization to the Upstream (Deepwater) businesses in the Americas (GOM & Brazil). This position plays a key role in influencing and providing professional accounting advice to senior stakeholders and support to the respective Business Controllers and Planning, Appraisal and Reporting “PAR” teams, while also managing relationships with external auditors, Business Finance leads and global colleagues within the Controller’s Organization. At quarter-end, the Business Accounting Advisor is responsible for analyzing, challenging and ensuring the financial integrity of the business results submissions.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Accounting or Business Finance roles, preference for a qualified accountant (CPA or equivalent) with controllership or audit experience. Experience in Upstream, Deepwater or E&P also preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of financial accounting frameworks and practical understanding of their application. Interpretation and application of IFRS is required, US GAAP is a plus.

The key finance competencies required are in the areas of Business Analysis, Accounting Operations and Accounting Principles.

Excellent communication and analytical skills, strong commercial acumen and the ability to operate within a dynamic rapidly changing environment

Well-developed communication and influencing skills, effective at all levels in the organisation. Able to establish credibility at the relevant levels within management inside and outside project teams.

The ability to work independently and proactively to resolve complex issues, anticipating internal and external events that may affect the Groups accounts.

The ability to apply a disciplined and firm approach to complex issues, challenging data where appropriate, while applying sensible business judgment and maintaining strong relationships across the Group
