Description

The Large Group Medical Underwriter computes rates for both renewing and prospective moderate to complex group accounts. The Large Group Underwriter 2 work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.

Responsibilities

As a Large Group Medical Underwriter you will make the essential connection between the customer and the product. The Large Group Medical Underwriter will develop and maintain an extensive understanding of complex underwriting data and trends while attaining financial and marketing objectives. You will provide technical guidance, analyze data and make pricing recommendations.

The Large Group Medical Underwriter supports Humana's business strategy by providing analytical guidance and pricing recommendations, gathering information, and consulting with customers and sales representatives to deliver on Humana's brand promise while ensuring cost effectiveness.

In addition you will:

Review customer data and assess risk, providing accurate case documentation and sound decisions

Evaluate financial risk in conformance with underwriting policies, procedures and methodologies, keeping in mind overall profit objectives

Develop and maintain an understanding of state-specific requirements and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations

Partner with customers, sales offices and agents to address demonstrated customer needs

Screens incoming work for eligibility based on potential exposures; selects and classifies risks by degree of insurability, and assigns appropriate rates; rejects non-qualifying risks.

Understanding of risk pool management (including risk pool exceptions and outliers), insurance financing and profit levers, and the end-to-end underwriting processes, guidelines and procedures for conducting risk assessment on new and in-force business.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Less than 5 years of Large Group Underwriting Experience

Comprehensive understanding of risk pool management

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access

Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office (Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role). A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 10x1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) is required.

Must have a dedicated home office space, with a locked door, lacking ongoing interruptions.

Can work from home in any state but must be open to Central Time Zone market business hours (9am-5pm)
