Position Summary
The Fiscal Analyst assists the Senate with the development and analysis of budget decisions. The Fiscal Analyst will work independently and in a team to support the work of a budget committee. This position is responsible for research, development and analysis of objective fiscal, budgetary and programmatic information to support committee, member and budget decisions. The incumbent works in coordination with the Principal Fiscal Analyst.
During legislative session (typically January-early June), this position will be expected to work longer hours and possibly weekends but will have the ability to earn additional paid time off.

Work Environment
This position will be on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol. This position is eligible for hybrid telework opportunities during the interim.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in public policy, economics, finance or a related area of study.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, finance or a related area of study AND experience in budgeting and policy analysis.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:
Strong quantitative and analytic skills (i.e., modeling data, presenting and analyzing budgets and other financial information).
Extensive experience in spreadsheet preparation (i.e., Microsoft Excel).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with key offices in leadership, members and staff.
Ability to work longer hours under pressure during legislative session.
Ability to balance conflicting demands and tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of fiscal administration and governmental budgeting.
Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
