Position Summary
The Team Leader, Underwriting is responsible for training, mentoring, motivating, and leading Underwriting Assistants and Junior Underwriters. The Team Leader must provide the highest level of customer service and ensure all loans are reviewed timely to meet specified guidelines as outlined by Roundpoint Mortgage Servicing Corporation. They will act as a troubleshooter to ensure efficient operations and smooth and timely workflow, while fulfilling the role of liaison to the production staff and Underwriting Managers. They will assist the Underwriting Manager in meeting division goals for turnaround times on loan decision, reduction of cost per loan expenses and productivity. This individual will monitor the underwriters’ pipelines to ensure complete and accurate data entry in the underwriting system of record while ensuring that loans are underwritten according to product guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities
Proficient with all responsibilities of an Underwriter.
Work with the Underwriting Manager to resolve underwriting problems, questions and concerns.
Elevate issues of deficient performance or unacceptable behavior in a timely manner according to company policies and procedures to the Underwriting Manager.
Conduct consistent team meetings, one-on-one meetings and daily phone calls with all team members to provide information, training, mentoring and feedback as well as discuss changes in procedures, policies and guidelines to help interpret and clarify.
Makes recommendations to the Underwriting Manager for load balancing, staff levels in proportion with the product workload.
Audits statused loans to ensure consistency in underwriting amongst associates.
Coach and counsel staff for peak performance in quality, productivity, efficiency, time management, organization and maximum use of technology.
Ability to function in an ever-changing environment and work across all business channels in Underwriting (Retail/CC/Wholesale) as needed

Required:
Successful experience working as an Underwriter
Must be detail oriented and have the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate
High School Diploma or GED Required
4-7 years mortgage underwriting experience
Supervisory skills helpful BA or BS preferred
Ability to read, and interpret borrower documentation, company policies, procedures, guidelines, reports, and legal documents. Individual must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Anticipates customer needs and regularly motivates or influences others to deliver customer service excellence. May troubleshoot highly sensitive or confidential issues. Personally ensures problem resolution. Identifies barriers to effective customer service and sets customer service standards. Establishes a customer feedback system and holds self-accountable for customer service excellence within the department
