Job Description:
Position Purpose
The Senior Tax Advisor (Property Tax) is a member of the U.S. Property Tax Team focused on delivering value added property tax valuation and advisory activities in the U.S. He/she will provide high quality and timely Property Tax advice and analysis to support Shell’s evolving portfolio and mission of helping achieve the goal of “Net Zero.” The role interfaces with Upstream, Downstream, Trading, Finance and the Property Tax Compliance Team.
The Senior Tax Advisor role will be accountable of specific areas, such as:
Delivering U.S. property tax advisory and valuation services to the business and other Tax Advisors.
Negotiating with taxing authorities on valuation positions, disputes, or tax abatements/incentives on major capital projects.
Supporting highly complex valuation projects for major properties and assets within the U.S., including high-end valuation, dispute resolution, shaping, and assurance/oversight.
Advising the business on Property Tax accruals.
Providing oversight of compliance activities performed by Finance Operations (FO) in Chennai, India.
Supporting Property Taxes litigation matters (directly and via outside counsel).
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in business, finance, or engineering with business background)
Minimum of ten (10) in property tax with a focus on advisory service
Broad experience in U.S. Property Taxation working for a multinational company or a professional firm with energy relevant experience;
Strong technical tax knowledge on issues affecting property tax and valuations in the U.S.
Strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing internal and external stakeholders;
Effective communicator of complex tax issues; both written and oral with the ability to explain complex tax issue in simple language for tax and non-tax professionals;
Effective client/project management and task prioritization skills;
Effective at establishing and utilizing external relationships and contacts for the benefit of Shell
Ability to adapt to new or changing circumstances and ambiguous or pressured situations;
Demonstrate imagination and creativity in the evaluation of issues and development of possible solutions;
Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the business; and
Effective team player on Tax and cross-functional/cross-sector teams.
