Job Description:

What’s the role?

Shell is seeking to accelerate its transformation into a provider of net-zero emissions energy products and services, powered by growth in its customer-facing businesses. This includes expanding its European power trading business and global environmental products business into new markets.

The role provides insightful analysis into the financial performance of Shell’s European Gas & Power Trading business which partners very closely with Shell’s Renewables & Energy Solutions business. The role is responsible for analysis of historical performance, developing forward looking forecasts, coordinating the 10-year strategic plan development, and additional ad-hoc decision support. The role will also play a key role in driving continuous improvement and collaborate with the Digitalization lead to transform our data, processes, and systems.

This role requires interfacing with the Business Vice President, CFO of the business unit, general managers, and various other business, finance, and risk colleagues. As a member of the global Gas & Power planning, appraisal, and reporting team, the role will engage with colleagues across the globe to share learnings. To be successful in this role, the incumbent will need to work effectively virtually, including strong relationship building across cultures.

As a trusted advisor to the business leadership team, ensure ultimate delivery of insightful, accurate and timely business performance reporting and enable greater transparency of value drivers that improve decision making.
Key deliverables include delivering the monthly financial results analysis, quarterly performance appraisals, and delivering forward looking analysis (quarterly forecasts, annual operating plan, and 10-year strategic plan). Additional analysis to support business decisions will be required.
Adopt a Controllers’ mindset throughout the quarterly financial reporting process and remain vigilant to gaps or errors in existing processes and data integrity as/when these arise in close collaboration with the Technical & Derivative Accounting teams and other stakeholders.
As required, assist Group Reporting, Investor Relations, Strategy, and the external auditors in securing answers to questions, where necessary working with Finance Advisors or other internal stakeholders and coordinating the responses to ensure completeness.
Demonstrate and pro-actively champion a continuous improvement mindset. Challenge the status quo to free up time for structural improvements, constantly looking to streamline, simplify and - where feasible - standardize processes.

What we need from you?

We hope to find the following in your CV:

Financial qualification (eg CIMA, CPA, ACA or equivalent qualification) preferred for the role, together with preference for understanding knowledge of technical & derivative accounting principles (although this will be greatly enhanced in role).
This role seeks applications from candidates with expertise working in Power markets to enhance our capabilities across Gas & Power Trading and Renewables & Energy Solutions.
This role works closely with the overall Trading & Supply business and Renewables and Energy Solutions businesses and therefore the incumbent will need to be an effective communicator and collaborator across all levels of the organization, and exercise strong influencing skills (without formal authority).
