What’s the role?

This is a transitional role in South Africa. The primary purpose of this role is to deliver finance support and knowledge to the Manufacturing businesses including the IPU portfolio projects relating to manufacturing in South Africa. This role is a senior position in the South Africa Connected Finance team, reporting directly to the CFO . The role is expected to work across various South Africa finance teams to support joint venture performance and act as finance advisor on key projects in SA.

The Senior Finance Advisor is the main business partner for the Manufacturing team and GM in Shell Downstream South Africa. He / she is expected to extend his / her network across the wider Shell organization to deliver the above finance support and is expected to deliver results within the JV operating environment in Durban.

A key enabler to success is the ability to deliver through others, whether it is the Manufacturing business team, the joint venture finance team or Shell Finance Operations’ teams.

The stakeholder’s landscape is complex - ranging from the Manufacturing business team in Shell in Johannesburg, the JV finance and business teams and GM / FM in Durban, the local business stakeholders in South Africa, the Trading organizations outside of South Africa and the various Shell Business Operations centers (i.e. Krakow, Chennai, Manilla). The Senior Finance Advisor is expected to build up a strong relationship with counterparts and other shareholders.

What we need from you?


Must have a degree in Business or Finance equivalent.
Minimum 8 years’ experience in a similar role, preference for business partnering experience in the manufacturing, mining or wider energy sector.
Finance professional with experience of providing business finance support at the operational to GM level. A proven ability to deliver outcomes together with others.
Demonstrates an understanding of Joint Venture arrangements and how the associated risks and benefits are managed.
Strong track record in providing business support and business performance improvement in complex business and regulatory environments, handling multiple interfaces from operational through to GM level.• Needs to have the ability to simplify complexity in understandable language


Additional Information :

• With the pooling of resources, the Senior Finance Advisor will over time likely be allocated to other parts of the business extending into Trading and Supply, Marketing or for IPU projects.

• Manufacturing is a technically complex business, with the added complexity of a JV governance structure and a wider range of stakeholders in and external to Shell. He/ She will have an opportunity to learn and grow on the job working closely with a diverse pool of experts.

• Furthermore, the margin accounting and associated mass balancing are areas where the Senior Finance Advisor needs to be willing to dive in and structurally improve ‘bottom up’ by intimately working with the Manufacturing team as one of their team.

The role is a great broadening opportunity to see the end to end E business of Shell in South Africa and understand how and when commercial decisions are made to optimize value.
