The Director,
FlashBlade & Platform Finance
provides full financial support to our
FlashBlade and Platform BU
executives and their organizations, participating in and enabling informed decisions that will support continued performance at the highest levels of effectiveness. The FlashBlade organization oversees market strategy, pricing, new product development, product transitions, updates, and continued support for our successful FlashBlade offering. The Platform organization oversees the design and development of software and hardware core architectures across our product portfolio as well as overseeing our Infrastructure Shared Services function.
SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...
Providing Financial support to our
FlashBlade & Platform
Leadership team directly, this role plays an essential part in both short-term/tactical and long-term/strategic analysis, collaboration and cross-group coordination of initiatives, as well as data-driven decision making support. This is a very hands-on role.
Typical analysis to include enablement and readiness metrics of field and channel teams, FlashBlade Pipeline efficiency, win/loss analysis/research, Pricing and Discount strategy, sizing of Total Available Market and Serviceable Available Market and continue to take on Market Share.
Standard Metrics Reporting
- Drive the design, collection, analysis, and consolidation of key business and financial performance information and operational metrics, as well as various special projects, recurring and ad hoc reporting. Own FlashBlade input into the Monthly Metrics deck
One Interface to Data
- Work across sales operations, sales finance, Marketing Pipeline Council, HR, and Strategy Office (Marketshare) to provide one consolidated interface for data to the FlashBlade and Platform business units
Expense Management
- Ability to fully model Capital Expenditures, and Opex to provide clarity on where the business stands on Opex in real-time in order to help meet the company’s operating margins. Ability to be flexible and reset expense targets based on Quarterly Performance
Minimize Repetitive Work
- Develop and maintain a financial review rhythm with the business leadership that will enable a predictable and recurring process delivering high visibility into the performance of the key business and financial metrics. This includes building analysis and self-service reporting for metrics that are consistent so the business can pull this information “on-demand”
Procurement & IT Spend
- Central interface to procurement and IT spend to offload any transactional tasks from the business in the area of procurement as well as IT Spend. Will be responsible for developing a formal documented process across how to handle, and this will be in the scope of the Finance business partner to define, and implement
Contribution P&L
- Ability to build and model out a fully loaded Business Unit P&L with direct and allocated expenses
Talent Sourcing & Recruiting Interface
- Ensure a consistent bi-directional interface around talent sourcing and recruiting targets in a dynamic expense environment
Win/Loss Analysis
- Support the product marketing team in quarterly win/loss analysis and ensure consistent methodology across how we look at win/loss
Own Budget Process
- Drive an end-to-end budgeting process in lockstep with the FlashBlade and Platform leaders to ensure that all CapEx and OpEx is budgeted for. Help FlashBlade and Platform BU executives manage their budgets in the most efficient way by anticipating needs and influencing correct investment decisions. This Finance person will also need to be able to share company finance constraints around budget planning to ensure prioritization is effective.
Support Forecasting
- Work with the FB and Platform leadership team to ensure that expense forecasting is accurate
Cross-Functional Bookings & Pipeline
- Ensure that there is strong interlock across Sales & BU through Sales Finance business partner and BU Finance business partner to ensure we’re in lock step on targets and assumptions. The role of the BU Finance business partner will be to ensure that any analysis the BU does is shared and understood across corporate Sales and Finance teams.
Price Modeling
- Support and validate quarterly price modeling to reset list prices and do analysis on quarterly pricing dynamics by competitor and segment
Hyper-scaler Consumption Modeling
- Ability to understand key drivers of cost and spend into AWS, Azure, GCP, and Co-lo as well as suggest optimizations that can drive efficiency
P&L Modeling & Simulation
- Ability to create and drive simulation scenarios of the P&L to provide options to the business
Provide
best-in-class financial business partnership
to the senior FlashBlade and Platform BUs leadership teams
Support Financial Close
- monthly close variance analysis for CFO reviews, ad-hoc financial modeling, and analysis
Advanced Modeling
- Provide additional insight into the underlying drivers of the business
Strategic Planning
- Support building end-to-end business models that can be used for mid and long term strategic planning.
Build, Buy, Partner
- Support analyzing investments from a “Build, Buy, Partner” lens to ensure that we’re investing correctly
M&A Support
- Drive Financial Modeling related to M&A activity
Story-Telling
- Ability to take data, understand the business context and impact, and then tell a story around what the data means and what we should do about it
Process & Scale
- Ability to recognize when we’ve outgrown a process and therefore restructure the way we do business to scale
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...
Recent, relevant experience supporting a product organization as a finance business partner, preferably at a Hardware company
Finance, Accounting, Economics BS degree or equivalent
MBA a plus
12 Years of increasing FP&A responsibilities
Ability to partner cross-functionally, through strong relationship building and communication skills, with all levels of management
Excellent analytical, decision-making, project management, and financial modeling abilities
Demonstrated ability to drive change management.
Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, Tableau, and Anaplan software a plus
Must be willing and able to work in an open office, team environment.
