Description
Summary
The Director of the Small Business Center is responsible for the organization, planning, implementation and supervision of small business program services and resources. Provides counseling, education and training to small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The Director promotes and markets the Small Business Center, administers an intensive schedule of entrepreneurial seminar programming, maintains an accessible resource library for client use, and provides technical business training in a confidential and professional manner.
Knowledge & Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide confidential one-on-one consultation to prospective and existing small business center owners in key areas such as business structure, business plan preparation, financial analysis, access to capital, and marketing.
Engage, foster, develop, and grow strategic partnerships and collaborations that enhance the college's competencies, reputation, and economic impact with small businesses.
Plan and market no-to-low-cost seminars and webinars on subjects relevant to small business start-ups and growth.
Perform administrative tasks related to the management of the Small Business Center.
Promote the SBC program and advocate for small businesses through presentations to communities and entities.
Develop relationships with key stakeholders supporting small businesses at the local and state level.
Serve on college, SBCN, and local committees as required and insure accurate and timely submission of contracts and contractual agreements.
Attend SBCN professional development conferences, SBCN virtual events, and small business networking events.
Complete SBC director credentialing program within three years of hire and maintain professional competency with ongoing training as required.
Additionally, applicants shall disclose if they have been a principal officer or owner for any business which filed bankruptcy within the past 7 years.

Education Minimum:
A baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position may be accepted.
Experience Minimum:
Demonstrated understanding of business management, startup, and resources and able to collaborate with local, state, federal, and private entities.
Excellent oral and written communication, public speaking, interpersonal, and presentation skills and display initiative and demonstrate professionalism and able to manage multiple assignments, meet assigned metrics, and submit work promptly.
Able to work independently and prioritize tasks.
Education Preferred:
B.A. or B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field plus three years of business experience in an ownership or management capacity.
Experience Preferred:
Experience counseling and/or consulting small business owners and experience with business planning and accounting software.
Experience developing and administering business training courses, seminars, and/or webinars.

Mathematical Skills
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching pedagogy, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
Computer Skills
A complete knowledge of Microsoft Products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required.

Employees shall be expected to contact the Human Resources Office for additional plan information and options regarding medical insurance and retirement.
Employment Status Definitions
The College shall recognize the following types of Employment Status, and as defined accordingly:
Full-Time
All salaried persons contracted for a minimum of nine (9) consecutive months per year and who perform a full-time work load, as defined by the College.
Part-Time Established
- Less Than 30 Hours/Week:
All employees contracted for 20 -29 hours per week, as contracted for a minimum of nine (9) consecutive months per year and who are employed for less than thirty (30) hours per week paid a per hours rate.
Part-Time Established- From 30 to 39 Hours/Week:
All employees contracted for 30 -39 hours per week, as contracted for a minimum of nine (9) consecutive months per year and who work a minimum of thirty (30) hours of work per week.
Temporary Positions Full-Time Temporary:
All persons contracted for a period of less than nine (9) consecutive months, and performing a full-time
work load, as defined under the College's Work Load Policy.
Part-Time Temporary:
All persons contracted for a period of less than nine (9) consecutive months and who work less than a full-time work load as defined under the College's work load policy, or who work less than twenty (20) hours per week regardless of length of employment.
Policy Provisions Eligibility for Benefits
Full-Time employees in Established Positions shall be eligible to receive all benefits offered by the College.
Part-Time employees in Established Positions shall be eligible to receive the following benefits:
Employees Working 20-29 Hours Per Week:
Shall receive the Social Security matching contribution and may purchase medical insurance through the College.
The employee shall be eligible for Longevity and Maternity Leave, and shall be eligible for benefits as described under the Prorated Benefits section of this policy.
Employees Working 30-39 Hours Per Week:
Shall be eligible to participate in the College's benefit program as described in the Full Benefits and Prorated Benefits sections of this policy.
Temporary Employees shall receive no benefits except social security matching contribution.
Full Benefit Provisions
The following benefits shall accrue to employees eligible for Full Benefits: Employer's Retirement Matching Contribution

Prorated Benefits
Using the actual time of employment as a percentage of full-time employment (40 hours per week), part-time employees in Established Positions shall receive the following benefits on a pro-rata basis.

School Involvement Leave Family Medical Leave
Payroll Deduction Benefits
Full-Time and Part-Time established employees (other than Temporary) shall be eligible for all Payroll Deduction benefit programs offered by the College.
