Finance Advisor – Deer Park Chemicals
What is the role?
Following US country guidance related to COVID-19 Return to Premise, this role is expected to have on-site presence 2x a week at the Shell Deer Park Chemicals site (some flexibility supported).
This Finance Advisor role is responsible for partnering with the site to deliver on operational and financial commitments. This role is responsible for providing quality commercial acumen and value improvement insights to help deliver bottom line performance. This will be a unique opportunity to help the site define top quartile financial support for a newly created standalone organization over 400 individuals. The candidate will closely partner with the third-party site manager on three primary third-party operators/contractual relationships including the Deer Park Refinery LP (DPRLP) for all shared services, utilities, materials, and facilities. The candidate should be commercially minded to challenge, support, negotiate, and communicate with our third parties to maximize value for Shell and will collaborate with Supply Chain on commercial contracting opportunities to enable continuous improvement, cost leadership, and third-party spend initiatives.
Finance Advisors serve as the face of Finance for specific business opportunities or challenges prioritized based on value and risk. They are responsible for the satisfactory delivery of finance capability required to support a set of clearly defined business outcomes on the project/transaction involved, which will be delivered by Business Finance, Centers of Expertise, and/or Finance Operations.
Accountabilities:
Lead and drive process improvement and excellence as part of Shell’s ‘One Finance’ team delivering both at site and with finance teams in Chennai, India and Manila, Philippines as well as across departmental boundaries.
Partner with multiple stakeholders (i.e., Third Parties, Site Leadership, Operations, Maintenance, Technical, Engineering, Projects, TA, etc.) to ensure delivery of financial and operational commitments safely, reliably, and in compliance with approved policies, procedures, and accounting guidelines.
Provide strong and effective fiscal leadership through finance and business support and analysis, performance appraisal, project support, commercial contracting insight, and controllership.
Use, maintain, and create digital financial tools for better decision-making and transparency across the site.
Leverage knowledge of the business environment and its impact on performance to articulate and propose opportunities and/or areas of value leakage.
Champion continuous improvement, cost leadership, and third-party spend initiatives by collaborating successfully with the Supply Chain Management team and the multiple business lines.
Participate in development of business strategy with effective plans for meeting established goals and targets. This includes bringing an integrated performance view that merges strategy, planning/appraisal, and site performance.
What we need from you
Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in broad finance knowledge and expertise with strong financial analytic, diagnostic, and economic valuation skills.
Ability to gain the confidence of various internal and external parties building on strong knowledge and understanding of the business drivers, value, and risk.
Flexibility and agility to deploy the appropriate finance skills to address the specific and varying business needs across the pool they work in, leveraging a matrix organization.
Problem-solving mindset with the courage to ensure professional financial rigor is applied to commercial decision-making process and risk management while bringing analytics and insights to the table.
Ability to apply a risk-based, practical approach to problem solving, coupled with the ability to rationalize decisions with significant uncertainty and incomplete information.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to relay financial information to people with different financial backgrounds.
Ability to understand end- users needs and translate into successful delivery.
Continuous improvement mindset and ability to lead through change.
Ability to thrive in a complex and undefined space amongst a small, lean team.
Experience with Microsoft products (experience with Power BI a plus).
