Projects & Real Estate
We have a rare and highly sought after opportunity for an ambitious Senior Associate to join our market leading, and growth focussed, regional Private Equity Real Estate practice. We are interested to hear from candidates within Australia, and also those working in other jurisdictions, including returning Australian or internationally qualified and trained candidates keen to relocate to the Asia region.
About the role
In this role you will be a key market facing member of one of the leading Private Equity Real Estate teams in the Asia region, and in a role offering genuine opportunities for growth and progression.
The team is one of the few recognised pure play Private Equity Real Estate offerings in the Asia region, and the role will see you working with leading global and domestic private equity sponsors, managers and investors on fast paced, varied, challenging and complex strategic and transactional work through the whole of the capital structure.
The team, which is led by the firm’s Real Estate Sector Lead, Mark Bayliss
, has been one of the most active in the market over a sustained period, and maintains an enviable deal sheet and track record of firsts, biggest and most complex for market transactions – and of which Mark will be happy to provide further details in response to inquiries on the role.
The lawyers in the team are closely aligned in terms of their professional and personal aspirations and ambitions, and it follows that the team has a strong collective focus on self-development (both professional and personal), and an ethos of supporting individuals within the team to achieve those professional and personal ambitions.
About You
You will bring a world view, and a curiosity about the macro events and indicators that matter to our clients. And an Asia regional focus that isn’t defined or limited by geographic or market boundaries.
You will also be commercially astute and savvy, and passionate about delivering a first-rate client experience – and building long term, sustainable client relationships.
You will have gained previous experience in private equity, funds, financing or commercial real estate within a first-tier or other high-profile practice, ideally with exposure to the structuring of equity styled investment into commercial real estate assets. You will have a strong desire to continue to develop an understanding of all aspects of the structuring of such investment (including capital raising and partnering, and credit and other debt styled investment) and in the real estate sector. You may be someone who has a passion for merger and acquisition and funds work, alongside a keen interest in commercial real estate. You may have had some experience in structuring joint ventures, funds establishment, real estate credit or debt and other real estate investment and real estate capital market transactions.
You will have
First rate written and oral communication skills, strong drafting and legal analysis skills, as well as an ability to get across complex areas of law quickly.
You will be self-aware, positive and have the ability to work well with others; being able to collaborate and work in a team is critical to success at KWM. In this ever changing legal and commercial landscape, you will also thrive in a culture that embraces change.
All of our lawyers, regardless of their experience, have high levels of direct exposure to clients. You will be the centre of information for our clients and transform the experience by truly engaging in and fostering those relationships to deliver relevant, prompt and commercially astute advice. We seek people who build a culture of commitment to achieve the best results for our clients and our team.

Connecting with our people is also a priority. Whether it’s more targeted and meaningful conversations around professional and personal development, regular feedback, coaching or developing infrastructure, we want to help our people grow and see their ambitions realised.
