Shell is one of the major players in the South Africa(SA) oil industry. All Shell Downstream businesses operate successfully in SA, supported by the Onshore Credit Team. The Credit Team has enjoyed significant success over the past few years achieving the successful implementation of various improvement in performance.
What’s the Role?
The Credit Analyst is responsible for risk assessment of customers, the establishment of credit limits, the analysis of the overall credit exposure, the recommendation of terms of credit and the negotiation, registration and management of security necessary to support higher risk exposures.
Further responsibilities include:
Manage Credit Risk
Responsible for the risk assessment of customers, negotiating, registering and managing security arrangements, establishment of appropriate credit limits and the analysis of overall credit exposure.
Responsible for the re-assessment of credit-worthiness of customers based on re-evaluation triggers and timelines.
Perform detailed financial analysis of customer financial statements for development of a risk profile of each customer using analytical results to establish credit limits
Approval of credit limits within delegated authority and prepare analysis write-up to obtain necessary MOA for decisions exceeding delegated authority level.
Approval of risk categories, and review & release of blocked orders within delegated authority.
Ensure compliance with Global Downstream Credit policy, Operating Credit Manual standards and Finance & Business controls.
Engage with customer’s senior financial and business leaders to establish understanding of customer’s financial status and business model as required to complete credit analysis and to negotiate security when financial condition does not support credit exposure.
Manage security arrangements to ensure timely actions taken to renew or replace expiring security instruments.
Accounts Receivable - Support the negotiation of Overdue Debts. Timeous credit-blocked order releases within SLA per MoA.
Debt Recovery - Responsible for identifying when accounts may require legal intervention e.g. If customer files for bankruptcy
Support to Sales
Provide interpretation of policy and guide the businesses on the principles of sound credit management. Keep up-to-date on issues within the businesses by having close relationships with the Sales Teams and reading information from industry sources.
Conduct customer visits where required.
What we need from you?
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
At least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
External Credit or accounting qualification or equivalent comparable work experience
Strong knowledge and interpretation of financial statements.
Strong analytical skills.
Candidates must be numerate with strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop working relationships with all functions
Proficient IT skills in MS Office applications.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
This role requires a results-focused team player, with strong communication skills.
Must be able to work under tight time pressure whilst still maintaining high standards of work.
Ability to deal with conflict effectively and challenge the business when necessary.
Possess strong commercial acumen to be able to support the sales organisation in credit matters.
Ability to be credible and be able to negotiate effectively with customers and their professional advisors face to face at the highest level within their organisation whilst valuing the customer relationship wherever possible.
