ROLE TITLE: HEAD OF CREDIT CASE REVIEWS
LOCATION: Dublin (Hybrid Working)
This role is being offered on a PERMANENT basis.
SUMMARY OF ROLE:
Risk, under the direction of the Chief Risk Officer, is an independent, second line of defence, function that monitors, guides, protects and supports all risk-taking activities across AIB, including credit risk. One of the primary objectives is to ensure the Group has a robust risk management structure and culture to take intelligent credit risk within the risk appetite set by the Board, in support of its customer franchise and social responsibility.
Credit Review, is a 2nd line appraisal function lead by the Head of Credit Review within Risk and reports to the Chief Risk Officer, Group Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee. Independent Credit Review is a key consistent in the Banks internal control framework for Credit, which has been identified as a Material Risk. Its mandate is to help the Board and Executive Management protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of AIB by assessing credit risk. It will assess whether all significant credit risks are identified, appropriately reported and controlled. The function will challenge management when necessary delivering on the Risk mandate of guiding and protecting.
Reporting to the Head of Credit Review, the Head of Credit Case Reviews is a member of the Credit Review Management Team and plays a central role in the day-to-day management of Credit Review. There is also opportunity to contribute to the wider Risk Team.
The Head of Credit Case Review will lead the Credit Case Review Team, driving and delivering a risk based agile plan to provide maximum coverage across the group book (including the UK) recognising and flexing to changes in the internal and external environment which impact risk profile. Support and drive the Credit review Ways of Working strategic plan enhancing the approach, scope and quality insight driven from Credit Review whilst applying a continuous improvement mindset.
Actively maintaining positive working relationships with accountable Senior Management Teams and business leaders, while engaging with stakeholders across the business, Third Line of Defence to enhance the effectiveness and reputation of Credit Review and with the external stakeholders when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
*Lead and direct team to ensure that credit reviews are delivered utilising internal and external reference points, technical understanding and substantive insights, are conducted in line with methodology and quality standards and delivered within dates committed to stakeholders. *Form an opinion on the effectiveness of the Credit Risk control environment and management's awareness at managing the risks effecting the business area and the discussion of the management awareness and reporting ratings with senior management/business leaders. Using expert knowledge in Credit Risk, Risk Management, Regulatory Requirements and Financial Modelling to form opinion. *Be prepared to review, challenge and propose actions to further strengthen internal policies and procedures as well as their effective implementation where necessary, and perform reclassifications and/or strengthening of provisions for borrowers according to the conclusions of the internal file reviews *Promptly delivering commercial, accessible, relevant reports which clearly highlight where action is required. Using influencing and communication skills to confirm that issues raised are managed by the business (FLOD and SLOD) and are promptly resolved. *Be a leader in providing guidance and direction in problem solving and decision making to ensure that root causes of issues are identified to be resolved and the communication and resolution of these issues with senior management. *Leadership of a team of Credit Review, providing focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, coaching, supporting career development and recognising strong performance. *Attract, develop and retain a high performing and technically skilled team which is a source of talent for the department and the wider group. *Maintain highly effective and influential relationships at SMT/Business leader (Leadership Team minus one) and below, to ensure that the overall control environment and control culture for the group is improving. *Contribute to the overall strategic direction of Credit review as part of the Management Team and wider across Risk team. *Supporting and embedding a strong credit risk culture at all times throughout the organisation.
Organisational Position:
This role has up to 8 direct reports, reporting to the strategic Head of Credit Review, and is a member of the Credit Review Management Team. The role holder has the opportunity to contribute to the wider Risk Team
WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS/CAN:
*Preference for professionally qualified candidate with an accountancy qualification ACA, ACCA or alternate Risk / Audit Qualification with knowledge and experience of various risk management methodologies and frameworks, in particular credit risk. Knowledge and experience of the Regulatory environment in which financial services / banking operates. *Ability to interpret and understand complex credit cases to be in a position to provide informed view of credit risk, its management and appropriateness. A thorough understanding of the components of credit applications and the associated key judgements and decisions with evidence of high standards of professionalism in relation to compliance with regulation, policy and standards. *Problem solver with well-developed leadership and negotiation skills and experienced in dealing with senior stakeholder groups. *Experience in interpreting and understanding risk data metrics, trends and garnering insight and to utilise to drive strategy *Experienced people leader with responsibility for leading and motivating highly effective teams who can also actively develop and maintain positive working relationships with senior business executives and managers and strategic audit partners.
