Shell’s Renewables & Energy Solutions business was created in 2016 and leads the development and growth of Shell’s integrated power business, including low-carbon sources like wind and solar, new mobility options like electric vehicle charging and lower-carbon fuel options like hydrogen for industry and road transport. Shell continues to provide customers with more renewable and low-carbon power, helping customers to switch to these options through energy solutions and decarbonisation services.
What's the role
The investment associate will be responsible for contributing to the origination, execution and portfolio management of energy access investments in Asia to accelerate progress in delivering Shell’s ambition of providing reliable electricity to 100 million people in emerging markets by 2030. The investment associate will:
Support the origination, negotiation and execution of energy access investments in companies, joint ventures and projects across the power sector spectrum (off-grid/mini-grid/on-grid distribution, generation, integrated power solutions) and across technologies
Contribute to due diligence, write investment proposals, develop financial models, contribute to internal review and approval processes
Contribute to portfolio management of investments
Contribute to quarterly performance reviews and annual planning processes
Support the shareholder representatives in the governance and management of portfolio companies, joint ventures and/or acquisitions (as applicable)
Contribute to partnership development and dialogue with corporate, financial, and governmental stakeholders to accelerate deal origination and enabling policy environments
Conduct market analysis and research based on a solid understanding of power market dynamics in emerging markets in Asia
Collaborate with internal partners regarding project development, partnerships, deal execution, portfolio governance, finance, HSSE et al. across the Shell Group and support integration opportunities across Shell businesses
What we need from you
We're keen to speak from individuals with relevant degree in engineering, economics, finance etc. and at least 4 years of investment experience (corporate/project finance, private equity) in power, renewable energy and/or energy access sectors
Furthermore, we also hope you possess the following skills and experience:
Investment experience in on-grid, off-grid and/or integrated power solutions in emerging markets across the power sector value chain
Demonstrated track record in preparing and delivering commercially viable investments, projects and/or partnerships as part of a deal team
Extensive experience in financial modelling and financial analysis to ensure commercial project economics
Experience of working in emerging power markets in Asia
An existing network within the emerging markets power and investment eco-system in Asia Good interpersonal skills and team player attitude
Strong communication skills, fluent in English
