Subaward Analyst
to join their team. The Subaward Analyst is expected to be an expert in federal, state, and University policies and in University business processes They will be directly responsible for drafting, reviewing, interpreting, negotiating, monitoring, and timely processing various types of subawards, and managing the interests and timelines of all involved parties. The Subaward Analyst will work directly with sponsors and subrecipients to facilitate Subaward review, negotiation, execution and management. The Subaward Analyst will be the University’s chief representative to both funding agencies and flow-through entities. The sustainability of the research enterprise and the productivity of the University’s relationships with these parties will be largely dependent on the performance of the person in this role.
85% Subaward development, monitoring, coordination/Subrecipient Monitoring
The Subaward Analyst ensures each subaward and its financial and in-kind commitments are acceptable to the University, the funding agency, and the University Investigator. This will often require extensive communication and negotiation with external partners. Using UM’s risk assessment guide, award templates, and terms and conditions review guidance, they ensure that the subaward is clear, comprehensive and that it includes provisions protecting the interests of the University. Assure compliance with Federal and other requirements. Verify that the Subcontract will be acceptable to the University, the funding agency, and the University Investigator. Consult with University Investigator and OSP staff as necessary to ensure feasibility for the researcher and compliance with University, State, Federal, and sponsor regulations. Ensure effective data and document management for all assigned subawards. Verify subrecipients comply with financial/audit review and SAM registration requirements on an annual basis.
15% Projects and Distributed Support
The Subaward Analyst will regularly be required to support colleagues within OSP in completion of mandatory obligations, or in completion of special projects to improve OSPs tools, processes, or general capabilities.
Additional Duties:
Answer questions for all other staff members with regard to the creation and monitoring of subawards.
Communicate sponsor updates, policy updates, or any others and regulatory changes to the Proposal Development staff.
Offer regular training to assigned campus units to ensure researchers and administrators are current on best practices and OSP procedures.
Provide recommendations to the Manager, Subaward Services regarding process improvement.

Position Details

Salary for this position is $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Undergraduate degree or five (5) years of experience in accounting, finance, or research administration or the equivalent combination of both to successfully carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role
Researching and solving complex financial, or compliance problems
Making compliant, efficient decisions during stressful situations
Interpreting solicitation terms and conditions, and applying requirements to all aspects of subaward administration
Leading negotiation between stakeholders of varying interests to find mutually-beneficial solutions
Comprehensive understanding of 2 CFR 200
Knowledge of GAAP
Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills with the ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines
Identifying and implementing workflow or systems improvements for a research administration team
Managing a high-volume of projects where customer service and negotiation is essential
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellence in the operation of personal computers and related software (Excel, Word, Access) with the ability to learn new programs
Interpersonal and oral communication skills, including ability effectively communicate with a variety of personnel and funding agencies and to establish and maintain good working relationships
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree such as MA, MS, MBA, or JD
Related professional certification such as CRA, PMP, CPA
