UW Finance encompasses the major central financial functions for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., including Enterprise Services, Financial Accounting, Sponsored Financial Programs, Student Financial Services, and Treasury. 


The Finance Operations (Fin Ops) Support Director leads and supports the UW Finance Workday Operations Support Team tasked to stabilize the Workday finance module to: 

Optimize resources, processes, and teams within UW Finance for execution of Workday business processes

Manage and collaborate with Finance Shared Services IT to close deferred scope projects

Collaborate with UWIT and the Integrated Service Center on the stabilization of Workday

Communicate with partners on updates or changes


The Fin Ops Support Director will manage a team of analysts and professionals that provide expertise, coordination, and operational support to UW Finance teams and leadership in the consolidation and prioritization of stabilization and optimization of system capabilities and work with information and data experts (e.g., DATAGroup) to identify reporting and other tools to aid in the execution of business processes, across relevant systems.

Position Complexities:

Team Management  
Responsible for leading Fin Ops team 

Resolve complex Workday transaction problems for UW Finance

Identify changes to Workday configuration to resolve ongoing business transactional problems.

Monitor customer service problem resolution for Workday, through UW Connect, and help develop and improve tools and performance management systems to improve customer service.

Work with UW Finance business process owners (eg. AVP Sponsored Program Finance) to identify key problems and barriers with current workday configurations and assist in prioritizing key issues and identifying proposed approach to address same

Coordinate with ISC, central IT and other central administration functions to sustain and improve the operations of Workday finance.

Work with a diverse group of individuals; placing a value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness

Manage work and teams in a matrixed environment

Advise and counsel a team of professionals responsible for managing the UW Finance deferred scope and stabilization of Workday

Hire and manage a team of professionals; both regular staff and vendors/suppliers

Responsible for staff development, career enrichment of staff, and any necessary corrective action


Technical Skills
Ability to overtime understand the configuration and processes within Workday Finance, including understanding of cross end/end business processes flows


Campus leadership:
Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate UW Finance leadership and program managers 

Provide strategy-driven, peer-to-peer leadership to colleagues across UW Finance and with UW partners

Successfully navigate the complex structure of a central/decentral system at the University 

Negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts between unit requests and priorities and UW Finance and University mission, goals, and priorities

Integrate unit priorities and programs into UW Finance and university priorities

Lead and move projects forward effectively, even in situations where s/he has little or no direct control of or influence over project partners

Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal partners (central partners and unit partners) and external partners 


Strategy/Program/Project Management
Develop and communicate vision and programmatic direction

Advise and collaborate with leadership on strategic direction

Participate in the development of an overall governance framework within UW Finance to identify, prioritize, and coordinate system changes, enhancements, and other improvements to systems or the delivery of service to finance customers, advise and counsel leadership, faculty, and staff on Finance Workday stabilization to optimize outreach and ensure education and knowledge; implement programming

Leverage engagement opportunities with campus partners

Create new strategies utilizing new techniques and technology for users and business partners

Participate in the development and communication of business process changes and modifications 

Strong blend of technical/process skills, leadership, and group facilitation

Strong organization skills to prioritize a diverse workload

Able to independently problem-solve or work collaboratively on a team to approach complex issues and relationships with finesse, patience, tact, and confidentiality

Gather and analyze detailed data and then link that to broader strategic concepts to ensure program needs are met

Project manage workflow requirements, modeling data, and metadata

Build, enhance, and continuously improve business systems programs 

Seek ways to continuously improve the program to enhance UW's financial systems

Duties & Responsibilities:

Team and Operational Management
Manage the daily operations of the Operational Support Team within a matrixed environment. Advise and counsel a team of professionals responsible for managing the UW Finance deferred scope and stabilization of Workday. Work with a diverse group of individuals; placing a value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. Responsible for the hire, staff development, and career enrichment of staff, along with any necessary corrective action. 


Analyze and resolve complex Workday and related system problems and issues. Develop comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the deferred scope projects and responsibilities, pain points, associated processes, and policies in order to support employee development, identify process improvement opportunities, and ensure the accuracy of team performance. Ensures Operational Support Team Partners are sufficiently trained to ensure project and operational needs are met. Partner with business partners and process owners to document systems issues and solutions, data flow, integration, workflow, pain points, potential rework, and opportunities.


Works closely with the Director of Finance Shared Services IT and other Finance leaders to consider Finance Operational Support operations across the full scope of UW Finance and potentially UW, seeking opportunities to economize the time and effort, and knowledge of all teams to manage system and organizational design/changes. Supports internal optimization efforts such as UW Connect Cohort, change control, change request intake, and prioritization, among others. 

Ensure clear documentation and communication of change impacts to the UW Finance, UW, and process partners.?

Work with various teams to identify options and solutions to Finance BP that will maintain the stability and accuracy of data and reports.

Identify the impacts upon processes and changes within UW Finance teams.


Collaborates closely with the Director of Finance Shared Services IT and central partners (UWIT, ISC, etc.) to design solutions, shepherd projects, identify impacts and solutions that impact UW Finance and Unit Customers, and work across these stakeholders to develop and document solutions.?Participate in the development of an overall governance framework within UW Finance to identify, prioritize, and coordinate system changes, enhancements, and other improvements to systems or the delivery of service to finance customers. Advise and counsel leadership, faculty, and staff on Finance Workday stabilization to optimize outreach and ensure education and knowledge; implement programming. Document processes and solutions. Evaluate processes for continuous improvement.

Collaborate to identify opportunities for further communication, training, or engagement opportunities to elevate customer knowledge and capability.

Directs team effort in the construction of an internal knowledge base, documenting processes, and policy knowledge, which will serve as a reference and training tool for internal and external teams.

Creates and promotes an environment of knowledge sharing across teams through knowledge transfer sessions in team meetings, team spotlight opportunities, office hours, etc. 


Business Systems Analysis and Planning
Analyze business problems and develop solutions; identify and assess alternatives; develop business cases and proposals that support decision-making among a diverse set of process partners. Help configure or design configurations within Workday.

Identify issues and risk trends based on incoming tickets; develop system-wide (either within business systems or processes) solutions.

Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts. Oversight of all incoming tickets and ensuring proper escalation on critical or enterprise-wide issues.

Identify, coordinate, and resolve configuration changes, break fixes, and other remedies to correct business process flows and outcomes, liaising with production support units (e.g., UWIT).

Collaborate with the Application Support team on engagement and communications on campus issues related to Workday or other enterprise systems. Liaison between UW Finance and the Application Support team and governance.

Conduct ad-hoc analysis and reporting as necessary.


Project/Program Administration
Perform unit/department functional tasks as needed:

Function as an internal consultant for new processes

Provide the communication bridge between old and new processes.

Participate in coordination efforts with key campus partners and external partners such as (vendors, suppliers, and local, state, and federal agencies)

Support and assist with complex or seldom executed transactions.

Assist in developing and maintaining materials and information on the knowledge platform (i.e., UW Connect) 

Participate in the identification and requirements gathering for reports needed to support effective procurement processes and information.


Facilitate meetings to validate, prioritize, and document requirements.


Other duties as assigned
Train and cross-train UW Finance staff on business processes and systems; provide mentorship to UW Finance program staff. 

Provide backup support to campus Shared Environments.

Operate in a matrixed environment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of progressively responsible experience in complex analysis and tasks involving the development, implementation, and support of enterprise-wide applications and environments.

Five or more years experience in Workday functionality, configuration, reporting and Finance Business processes. Advanced Workday functional and design knowledge in reporting, configuration, and other technical topics.

Five or more years of progressively responsible management/supervisory experience.

Significant understanding of technical and financial terms, business processes, and reporting.

Demonstrated experience in working on, communicating with, and building relationships with diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to UW Finance and UWs commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Experience with system implementation deliverables and related analysis, including scope definition, requirements gathering, business process re-engineering, it-gap analysis, the total cost of ownership, benefits analysis, and business process improvement.

Advanced ability to develop efficient and effective analytic methodologies and approaches to generate value, address a broad range of operational and performance issues, execute the analysis in a timely, accurate and reliable manner, and communicate findings clearly and concisely to diverse business leaders, key contributors, and stakeholders.


This position is temporarily funded through 6/30/2027.
