As a Channel Optimiser, you will be part of the Trading & Supply Products organization which is at the heart of Shell’s Downstream business. Trade and Supply Products exists as the integrator with the rest of Shell to enable stronger E2E value delivery. We do so through managing and optimizing the physical supply chain as well as creating value though proprietary trading. Working closely with our partner businesses, we create more integrated value for Shell by maximizing the overall value potential across different lines of business and portfolios by delivering the right product to the right place on time at the maximum margin potential.

What’s the role?

In this role, you will be reporting to the Channel Optimization Manager, the Channel Optimiser will be primarily responsible to drive the maximization of end-to-end value for the South Africa Integrated Performing Unit by steering volumes from various sources to the marketing channels locations where they will generate most value. Although this position has no direct reports the selected individual must be able to influence others in various organizations throughout the business and associated interfaces owning a strong leadership role

Your further accountabilities will include:


Act as an integrator and steer Products (Product Optimization/Hydrocarbon Deal Making /Commercial Fuels) and Operations (Supply Operations/Road Transport) teams on optimal allocation of molecules in the supply chain through Mass Balancing activities & managing working capital targets.
Responsible for managing operating relationship with Shell marketing businesses (Mobility, CF, Aviation) and develop E2E steering tactics to continue to maximize integrated value delivery.
Responsible for in-month optimization and daily dialogue with channels on prompt opportunities.
Manages supply chain disruptions & communication with all Classes of Businesses.
Responsible for New Business Evaluations and profitability analysis.
Drives continuous improvement opportunities for the Integrated Performing Unit through leading the Monthly Review.
Meeting providing tangible outcomes to business challenges and focusing on maximum cash generation.
Works with various stakeholders across the IPU to deliver and/or support on all supply chain short or long-term projects.
Works in close collaboration with Channel Optimizer, Demand to predict supply/demand challenges and opportunities.
Maximizes cash generation by leading SA Book optimization process providing the IPU with a Year 1 Supply Plan with scenario planning.
Channel Optimization has final say and authority to steer and enforce commercial tactics/steers with all sales channels to maximize value of the integrated portfolio.
Support the understanding and monetization of real options in our supply portfolio so that we can capture time-value and pricing options.
Supports the monthly Sales and Operations Planning process (step 2 to Step 4).
Supports intercompany pricing activities.
Supports end to end profitability model set up and evaluation for all channels.


What we need from you?

We’re keen to hear from individuals with preferably minimum of 5 years of working experience working in supply chain planning and optimization within the oil industry and a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Commerce, Finance or equivalent. Alongside this, we’d hope to see the following on your CV:


Broad knowledge of oil industry and the markets, including previous experience in Supply Chain Planning and Optimization.
Results oriented with strong commercial focus, risk aware and dedicated to seek improvements in business performance.
Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Skill level of market dynamics and fundaments.
High capacity/quick learner.
Ability to prioritize and troubleshoot, highly flexible.

Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability to develop alternative options, solutions, and ways of working continuously.
Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills to drive End-to-End decision-making at the interfaces with Commercial Fuels, Aviation, Mobility and Manufacturing.
Demonstrated evidence of E2E values and behaviors will be taken into account during the selection process.
