What's the role -

The Pricing & Financial Analyst role will be responsible for supporting the engagement of external counsel and management of Shell’s Global Legal Panel.

The Pricing & Financial Analyst will be one of the core members in the Central Legal Operations Team as a part of the Legal Services Global Operations (LSGO) and a centralised, cross-Legal resource for supporting and enabling operational excellence globally. On a day to day basis, the Pricing & Financial Analyst will work to support the individual attorneys with negotiations and evaluating AFA proposals, working to improve on them with creative and innovative approaches, implementing the AFAs, and later monitoring the effectiveness of same. This includes, but is not limited to modeling proposed KPIs tied with fee arrangements, producing a summary of various types of fee arrangements in the Company portfolio maintaining and updating the databases used to track such work, curating work product to assist in the development of new AFAs in order to readily disseminate fee arrangement information to Company personnel, invoicing, and performing day-to-day administration and monitoring tasks associated with alternative fee agreements.

This role assists in overseeing operational aspects of legal service delivery including analytics/business intelligence. The ideal candidate must possess a diplomatic presence to handle potentially difficult fee discussions with Shell’s most long-tenured and valued outside counsel firms from diverse cultures around the world, and excellent communication skills.

To succeed in this role, the candidate will need to be able to multitask efficiently and effectively manage competing priorities and assist in leading the team on the day to day activities of business analysts. The position will require the development of both internal and external provider networks, through partnering with other key functions within Shell.

Accountabilities:


Support Shell globally throughout the AFA Process
Assist in-house attorneys in the preparation of AFA proposals on specific high level matters, leading negotiations, monitoring implementation, tracking performance, and reporting results
Support the Central Legal Operations team’s reporting and analytics effort with a primary focus to advance Shell’s outside counsel program, appropriate fee arrangements, business intelligence, and development of new key performance indicators to drive value.
Assist in overseeing the creation, quality control, and delivery of all reports being produced by LSGO
Act as a focal on Business Intelligence and analytics projects and deliverables.
Liaise between Sourcing, Finance, HR, Contracts & Procurement, and invoice review to build a more robust, centralised approach to vendor management and reporting.
Combine the data from sourcing, invoice review, and vendor management to support each Legal department with budgeting and reporting to Finance.
Monitor and review actual performance against predictions to develop predictive models for legal spend and AFA performance.
Assist in the identification of trends, concerns, savings and or efficiency gains to target for evaluation and implementation
Assist in identifying financial trends and AFA best practices and recommend improvements accordingly, including the identification and evaluation of market pricing and analytic tools and external sources of information
Assist the Sourcing Business Analysts on the Sourcing team to proactivively identify issues with existing pricing arrangements and propose methods to rectify those issues
Demonstrate a high level of service delivery; with a continuous improvemenet mindset


Dimensions

The position requires fluent and proficient English speaking and writing skills. The services will be provided from offices in Houston (potentially out of the London office). The position will involve working as part of the Central Legal Operations team in collaboration with all Shell Legal departments. Special challenges include working in a virtual environment and serving as a liaison between Legal and other departments, including Finance, Human Resources, Tax, SBO, Communications, and Contracting & Procurement.

Skills and Requirements

What we need from you -


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistical Analysis, or a related discipline
Minimum 3 years experience required in legal sourcing/pricing including alternative fee arrangements in a law firm or corporate legal department
Experience in analytics, reporting, business intelligence, KPIs preferred
Office Suite with a focus on advanced Excel skills
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Strong leadership skills: Accountable for actions and outcomes and persist despite obstacles; demonstrate dependability in difficult circumstances and show a sense of urgency about getting results; ability to encourage and develop fellow team members
Excellent written and oral presentation skills
Capability to simultaneously manage multiple deliverables across a variety of support areas and a variety of geographies
Strong project management, change management, and continuous-improvement expertise
Demonstrated ability to challenge conventional practices; adapt established methods for new uses; pursue ongoing system improvement; play with concepts and ideas to create novel solutions to problems; evaluate new technology as potential solutions
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders and colleagues, outside counsel, and vendors
Capacity to work in a challenging environment with clients needing quick response, including providing support in sensitive and high-pressure situations
Facility to collaborate well in a (Global/remote) team environment
Availability for consultation with clients outside business hours, including on short notice
Fluent written and spoken English
