Description

The Director, General Accounting performs general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements such as balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements and capital expenditure schedules. Conducts or assists in the documentation of accounting projects. The Director, General Accounting requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.

Responsibilities

The Director, General Accounting prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles. Provides financial support, including forecasting, budgeting and analyzing variations from budget. Analyzes and prepares statutory accounts, financial statements and reports. Opines on complex accounting and close issues. Drives accounting organization integrations into Finance Shared Services. Decisions are typically related to the implementation of new/updated programs or large-scale projects for the function and supporting technical/operational procedures and processes, and implements strategic plans, drives goals and objectives, and improves performance. Provides input into functions strategy.

Required Qualifications


Master's Degree
8 or more years of technical experience
5 or more years of management experience
Progressive financial and accounting analysis experience
Progressive leadership and management experience
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Certified Public Accountant license


Preferred Qualifications


Master's Degree in Business Administration
Prior experience in public accounting and auditing
Strong technical accounting skills
Prior insurance operations or financial industry experience
Knowledge of relational databases such as Access and SQL Server
