Department of Rural Institute on Disabilities
invites applications for a
Budget Analyst I/RI
. The person in this position works with Principal Investigators and Project Directors across all Rural Institute externally-sponsored accounts. This position works independently and determines methods, priorities, and timelines for completing work that requires a high level of complexity, accountability, and responsibility. This includes monitoring spending on restricted projects, forecasting costs, examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting records for the purpose of completing transactions, giving guidance, and preparing statements and reports. The individual must be resourceful an is expected to keep informed of specific grant and sponsor regulations. The position establishes and maintains a productive working relationship and positively represents the Rural Institute through positive interactions with HR, accounts payable, student accounts, treasury, sponsored programs, and the VPR office.
The person in this position functions independently, under the supervision of the Business Team Director. The person in this role supervises part time staff and student employees who provide accounting functions for the RIIC Business Team.
Responsibilities
Tracking and providing documentation for Procard purchases using Banner
Completing deposits and abatements using Banner
Completing non-payroll cost transfers using Uapprove
Preparing letter of appointment contracts, graduate contracts, and faculty/staff pay instructions based upon project needs and coordinated with employee’s academic department
Completing Travel Expense Reports using Grizmart
Completing contracts under and over $5000 using Grizmart
Purchasing and verifying transactions (both grant supplies and office supplies)
Completing Request for Personnel Transaction forms and hiring paperwork (students, staff, and contract professionals) using Uapprove
Recording biweekly and student payroll using GrizTimeOnline
Within six months of training, the incumbent should have a thorough understanding of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. financial systems. The incumbent should also be able to make financial decisions based upon knowledge of funding requirements and financial information obtained from University of Montana financial systems. In addition, the incumbent should be proficient at processing transactions within all university platforms such as U-Approve, GrizMart, Banner, GTO, EPAF, and eProp.
Required Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret details of myriad project regulations; communicate those regulations to PIs and project directors/staff.
Demonstrated written communication skills (grammar, composition, revision).
Demonstrated skill in MS office Suite programs. (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
Independent problem solving and task completion.
Excellent social and verbal communication skills, especially when under stressful, tight project/task deadlines.
Excellent time management, complex task management, and task priority skills.
Ability to gather information from multiple sources, analyze and interpret financial data.
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform financial work with minimal errors.
Adaptability to establish effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and administration
Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, business or related field and two (2) years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
