About the department and team:

The marketing controlling & measurement team is part of the marketing department and supports all marketing teams across various brands and regions in reaching their targets. This team has a dual reporting line into both marketing as well as into the central controlling team which is part of the finance department to align on processes and best practices throughout the company. 

Our team mirrors the organizational structure of the marketing team: by brand, by functional team and by campaign. We are actively involved in setting up budgets, long term targets and reforecasting with all involved parties. We report on the current performance against these plans and indicate the impact on the future performance. We have a lead role in measuring performance to drive Return on Investment and value creation against defined marketing/campaign objectives in line with the Marketing Strategy throughout the full end-to-end campaign development process. The team is using a wide range of tools to support these analyses, forecasts and strategic activities. Additionally we are not only overseeing Europe but are also asked to take a more global role in these areas. We closely collaborate with marketing, finance, controlling, ABI and ECOM.

Overall our team has three key objectives:

  • Support the marketing organization to set and achieve its business targets and objectives
  • Provide advice on optimal marketing investments (budget allocation & maximizing return)
  • Act as proactive business partner - with a stakeholder focus - to drive business impact

Specifically, marketing controlling is responsible for:

  • Budgeting: drive the budgeting process and monthly management reporting
  • Actuals: control and understand the past, current and future marketing numbers – to support a smooth financial close (OPEX & CAPEX)
  • Reporting: summarize and report financial performance to the marketing leadership team
  • Measurement: implement and monitor marketing and financial KPI’s
  • Analysis: analyze and translate both marketing and company performance and link back to marketing budget / investments
  • Challenge: challenge teams and projects to drive and improve business impact -following a data driven marketing approach

The successful candidate will be working for an international and fast growing organization where he/she will be supporting the Senior Manager - Marketing Controlling in the following activities:

Key responsibilities

  • Drive transparency on cost drivers of assigned teams by supervising budget process and forecast, reporting actual costs, explaining cost deviations, and identifying savings potential as part of cost saving initiatives
  • Ownership of month-end financial closure process and independently explaining variances
  • Oversight of daily activities of business analysts with a focus on delivering results
  • Support senior manager in ad-hoc leadership team requests and interacts independently with senior executives
  • Liaise with global counterparts to align on global marketing reporting, insights and responsible for global consolidation of spend
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve processes  
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of marketing KPI’s and monthly financial KPI dashboard reporting

Knowledge and skills

  • Excellent communication skills in and outside of controlling
  • Requires in-depth knowledge and experiences in business analysis, cost modeling and accounting/reporting
  • Receives minimal guidance, is able to work independently and get things done while managing competing deadlines

  • Knowledge of fast moving consumer goods, fashion industry and/or retail is an advantage
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience

The ideal candidate

  • University degree in Business Administration / Finance / Controlling or similar
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant Business Control work experience
  • Understanding of accounting principles
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel and MS Power Point
  • Experience with Marketing platforms and tooling, as well as SAP BW, BPC NetWeaver platform and HANA is a plus
