Job Description Summary
This position uses data and analytics to drive business strategy and results; Leverage internal and external information to identify quantifiable and actionable opportunities. Support Product Managers in Management Liability, Crime and Professional Liability product lines as well as cross product, to create innovative and profitable product strategies in effort to achieve financial results, increase market penetration and speed to market.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Portfolio Management/Product
Proactively engage Product Managers in the use of data and analytics to support the development and assessment of product strategy
Work with Portfolio Management in the monitoring of individual product and cross product results with a focus on current B&SI, eCommerce, Small Commercial partnership and other enterprise-wide initiatives.
Engage with Product Managers as well as Actuarial, in making very responsive changes to product pricing, especially with regards to flow business.
On assigned Products work with Product Managers on eligibility and business rule changes. Portfolio Management will be responsible for business and underwriting rules and working with business partners to implement those rules.
Engage with Actuarial and Analytics in the exploration, testing and monitoring of third-party data sources to support account/product line information requirements and pricing.
Engage with Analytics and BI&A to communicate data needs and assist/provide feedback regarding development of monitoring reports for both B&SI and Enterprise initiatives.
Leverage industry best practices, market data and technology trends to identify and implement business opportunities.
Report, monitor and analyze data trends and communicate such to Product Managers and other business partners
Partner on strategic initiatives with Portfolio Management, Analytics and Actuarial to ensure optimal outcomes. Proactively explore new innovative strategies with Product Managers to achieve desired results.
Capitalize on technology and data resources to improve understanding of key metrics that drive profitable growth.
Complete competitor analyses as assigned, including but not limited to the evaluation of competitor filings
Technical
Able to manipulate complex raw data; independently complete complex analysis and provide recommended courses of action.
Facilitates collaboration with IT and data management teams to ensure correct data for business-critical analysis
Leads strategic business partnerships with IT, Actuarial, Operations, Analytics and Claim functional areas (as applicable), along with Product Leaders.
Interpret data of all complexity to recognize patterns and analyze trends.
Monitors key performance indicators, recommend and implement possible improvements.
Communicates the financial impact of recommendations.
Interpret model and other data and influences how to apply them to product/portfolio strategy.
Additional Job Specifications and Competencies
Ability to proactively recognize issues, trends and opportunities. Engage Product Managers in addressing strategic issues.
Ability to use analytics to explain business results and recommended course of action.
Ability to provide clear verbal and written communications and presentations; Effectively communicate insights and influence solutions using data visualization and other techniques.
Work independently while maintaining a collaborative team approach and coordinated responses to current issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and 3 years analytics experience required.
Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, finance, computer science, statistics, MIS or equivalent experience preferred.
Typically has a minimum of 4-6 years of experience in Descriptive Analytics or related field.
4 years working successfully with Microsoft office products and software/programming applications specific to business supported.
Working knowledge of tools such as SAS, SQL preferred.
General knowledge of Descriptive Analytic practices and processes.
General knowledge of insurance products/concepts required.
Previous experience leading others preferred.
General knowledge of the main features of the collection of data and the relationship of data elements to each other.
