Performs comprehensive accounting and finance duties for the Sheriff's Office. Serves as a member of the management team for the department.
Representative Examples of Work
Oversees the financial activity of the Sheriff's Office. Provides lead direction for administrative support staff performing accounting work. Compiles and analyzes financial data to develop and prepare the annual budget. Attends meetings and provides accounting information as requested. Serves as liaison to federal, state, county, and other outside financial representatives. Makes presentations to county officials. Establishes, revises, and maintains all department accounting systems. Produces monthly budget reviews to monitor and manage expenditures. Reconciles accounts, creates adjusting entries, evaluates and implements internal controls, approves claims. Advises supervisor of problem areas. Prepares per diem rate calculations using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Cost Accounting Principles, DOC agreed-upon procedures and Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM). Oversees department's compliance with all related state and county laws, rules, and policies. Ensures grant project expenditures are allowable and reports expenditures to administrative agency. Responsible for tracking and managing all aspects of Sheriff's Office finances.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Degrees best suited to this position are business administration, finance, and accounting. Requires three years of government finance experience which includes experience with financial reporting and grants management.
Physical/Environmental Demands
Work is primarily in an office setting; may require occasional lifting in the light range (up to 20 lbs). May require occasional travel, locally and out of town to meetings and conferences.
