Job Description:

This role will develop and implement the long-term strategy for gas, power, and renewables trading business within the Southern region of the US gas market and within ERCOT. The successful candidate will also be the lead Power trader on the desk and personally manage long term basis, HR, and option positions. They will manage and set the regional strategic direction for business development as well as build strong working relationships that support a distinctive supply chain with a distinct competitive structure while trading to build Shell’s value.


The Manager South Gas and Power Trading will manage and grow a geographically bounded portfolio of assets, linked by infrastructure, supply and end use customers, and trading relationships.
Supervises a team of 7-9 power traders and 7-9 gas traders in achieving annual gross margin trading targets of $200 million and budget cost targets as designated by GM Trading.
Manages physical and financial power, natural gas and options for speculation and hedging.
Manages an extensive portfolio of generation, transmission, gas transportation, storage and customer load and sales.
Develops long-term business and trading strategies while operating within existing Manual Authorities and contract parameters.
Leads and maintains a culture where Compliance is a Priority and the highest standards of integrity and ethics are maintained in all interactions with industry participants, customers and internally with other team members and colleagues.


What is the Role?


Contributes and participates in the GM Trading’s Leadership team.
Is a Leader of Community within the Shell Energy Americas Commercial and Functional employees. Sets the highest standards of Leadership and Ethics, creating a culture of learning and delivery.
Manages a team of 7-9 gas traders and 7-9 power traders. Products traded include physical/financial gas, power and options. Optimizes a growing portfolio of generation (wind, solar, natural gas, battery), transportation, transmission, storage and customer sales in the very dynamic Southern US market.
Delivery of gross margin around $200 Million annually and steady growth of renewables help Shell to achieve our Energy Transition goals and Power growth strategy.


What We Need from You?


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Engineering. Master’s Degree preferred.
10 years of experience in the relevant gas and power markets, trading experience with options, futures, forwards and other derivatives.
Demonstrated ability to make quick and well-reasoned decisions encompassing Compliance and Regulatory guidelines.
Strong leadership track record of leading a team, developing staff, managing budget, focus on compliance, respect for colleagues, and the capacity to work across boundaries with other Shell Trading teams and Functional groups.
Collaborates and works in partnership with internal teams such as Compliance, Finance, Credit, Legal, Structuring, Operations, Regulatory, Fundamentals, Contracts, Market Risk.
Strategizes and coordinates with the Sales and Origination leadership and team to drive success through our Origination business.
Develops customer product offerings including complex multiyear structured transactions with the Sales and Origination team.
