Job Description:
What is the purpose
The role provides insightful analysis into the financial performance of Crude & Products Trading & Supply (T&S) in the Americas both for internal management and external analysts, and both historic (actuals) and forward-looking (Latest Estimate, Plan, Strategy). Primary customers are Business General Managers, Downstream and Upstream PAR.
As a member of the T&S Oil PAR team, the role will engage with counterparts in different businesses with the opportunity to share learnings across businesses as well as the Technical & Derivative Accounting team – to ensure a holistic understanding of commercial and accounting drivers underpinning the performance and commitments of T&S Crude & Products.
A focus area is to drive momentum on remedial action addressing shortcomings in underlying data, processes, and systems, which represent a major challenge to delivery of the above. This also means working closely with the Digitalization, Data & Process Integrity Lead as well as colleagues in Hydrocarbon Management (HCM), Reporting & Analysis (R&A) and the Risk organization to ensure that solutions that will improve bottom-up the flow of data across all relevant systems are ultimately consistent with being able to provide more insight to decision-makers at all levels.
A heightened focus area in the short-term will be to help individual business segments (Chemicals & Products, Marketing, Upstream) understand the current and potential future value-add from Shell’s oil trading & supply capability. This is already required both for internal MI as well as external reporting purposes but will undergo a major re-appraisal under Shell’s new Transition/Growth strategy and our ambition to lead a global de-carbonization agenda on a sector-by-sector basis.
Planning Appraisal & Reporting (PAR) Advisor Crude and Products Americas
What is the role
As a Planning Appraisal & Reporting (PAR) Advisor Crude and Products Americas , you will be responsible for the following business objectives and the duties:
As a trusted advisor to the Crude and Products T&S leadership teams, ensure ultimate delivery of insightful, accurate and timely business performance reporting and enable greater transparency of value drivers that improve decision making. Key quarterly deliverables include Monthly Financial Results and slides for Local Webcasts. Analysis needs to cover both internal T&S performance metrics as well as external/published financial metrics (e.g. Clean earnings, Cashflow from Operations).
Deliver all forward-looking business performance analysis (Latest Estimates, Business Monitoring, Annual Operating Plan) that enable T&S leadership to make timely decisions regarding priorities, constrained resources and response to external opportunities & threats.
Adopt a Controllers’ mindset throughout the quarterly financial reporting process and remain vigilant to gaps or errors in existing processes and data integrity as/when these arise in close collaboration with the Technical & Derivative Accounting teams, but also HCM, R&A, Risk and Finance Advisor colleagues. Manage interactions with all stakeholders across respective teams and ensure alignment on Global principles for T&S.
As required, assist Group Reporting, Investor Relations and the Reporting and Performance Management (RPM) Leadership Team in securing answers to questions related to T&S Classes of Business (CoBs), working closely with the appropriate Finance Advisors or other internal stakeholders.
Demonstrate and pro-actively champion a continuous improvement mindset throughout the Extended Oil RPM team (i.e. including R&A as well as Technical & Derivative Accounting). Challenge the status quo in order to free up time for structural improvements, constantly encouraging RPM and R&A to streamline, simplify and - where feasible - standardize processes.
Deliver various ad-hoc analysis as required for Group and T&S stakeholders.
