Organizational Background
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.
(USSD), as a member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), is dedicated to empowering professionals to advance sustainable benefits of dams and levees. USSD is seeking an Executive Director who can work collaboratively with a growing professional association. The Executive Director will guide the organization by advocating for the role of dams in society, providing premier dam and levee education, nurturing the community of practice, and building networks and relationships to strengthen the community of practice all while effectively managing the 501 c3 non-profit organization.
NOTE:
This role will be a remote Executive Director position.
The organization is led by a 14-member Board of Directors representing the USSD membership approaching 1,500. The combined operating budget is approximately $557,000 and has demonstrated a 20% growth in membership and revenue over the past two years. Primary sources of revenue come from annual conference, education programs, membership, and federal contract sources.
Position Summary
USSD seeks an experienced and highly skilled Executive Director to work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to lead and support all areas of the organization. The four major responsibilities of the position include:
Effective management of USSD operations and administration
Maintain and report accurate financial functions of the organization
Maintain and expand communications, marketing and membership growth of the organization
Build and make available to membership timely and effective education programs designed to benefit USSD members and expand the value of USSD
Primary Responsibilities
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Executive Director is the key management leader for USSD and directly oversees all activities of the organization, its programs, staff, grants/contracts and strategic planning for the organization. Other key duties include:
working closely with the Board of Directors to continuously improve its ability to govern and lead the organization,
building and maintaining strong working relationships with membership and key organizations and federal agencies relevant to USSD,
supporting the work of USSD committees, and
working with the Board to strengthen Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the community of practice.
As the critical leader of USSD, the Executive Director has the responsibility to ensure all functions and services of the organization are focused on the USSD mission: Empower professionals to advance sustainable benefits of dams and levees for society.
Professional Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
The following qualifications and characteristics are desired for this position. Additionally, the successful candidate must possess a strong ability and desire to support the membership of the organization:
Excellent organizational and team management skills, including planning and program development
Proven ability to build rapport and work effectively with society partners, associations and other USSD related organizations
Strong interpersonal skills as a convener and perceived as a bridge-builder to forge partnerships among members and stakeholders
Ability to provide strategic input and guidance to the USSD governing board, staff, and industry partners
Budgeting, accounting, and financial management experience
Excellent communication skills
Event planning experience
Preferred Education and Experience
Minimum 5 years successful executive leadership experience in a professional association organization. Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in public administration, business administration, or related field.
Note:
other relevant educational degrees such as science, engineering, construction or other fields related to the dams industry will be considered.
Compensation
The USSD Executive Director will receive a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance. The proposed salary range for this position will be $90,000 – 175,000. Also included is a 401k retirement plan. Vacation time, sick leave, and holidays are also provided.
