PURPOSE:
The role of the Downstream Finance Analyst will be to ensure that all reporting activities & responsibilities are performed in an effective, controlled, and efficient manner. This role should have the expertise and go-to person for accounting procedures, theories, systems, and industry standards. This position is also responsible for ensuring the related processes in SAP run smoothly, on schedule, and error-free under a completely controlled environment.
This position will report to Senior Team Manager in the Finance Operations (FO) Chennai, India. Will also liaise with the Trading businesses based out of various geographical locations. Position needs to handle a variety of accounting issues and activities in the manage close process. Needs to be a troubleshooter, utilizing prior background and analytical skills to assess complex problems and design solutions under challenges imposed by tight monthly and quarterly closing deadlines.
The successful candidate must possess strong communication skills and be capable of developing effective relationships with various stakeholders. He/she must also be able to adapt to the working schedules of the businesses which may require that person to work in shift timings.
The incumbent in the role will be an IC and coordinate within/across teams.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Main areas of accountability include:
Operational: - Perform the operational deliveries of manage close process deliverables, developing and sustaining knowledge retention with an effective backup plan in place -Ensure all strategic, managerial, and operational metrics targets are either met or exceeded - with a relentless focus on Top Quartile performances and deliver migration activities. -Operate FCM controls and maintain robust Controls framework through driving high control awareness within the team together with a strong emphasis on effective control operation at every execution. -Embed HSSE culture and behavior. Deliver cost and efficiency targets including continuous improvement targets -Support and implement MC global initiatives.
Stakeholder Management: -Build an effective partnership with the business counterpart in both finance and operations team, with specific focus on Controllers organization and other business stakeholders to deliver seamless end to end process management. -Ensure good integration between FO and business partners and also cross-processes within FO -Active member of global MC network.
DIMENSIONS:
The Downstream Finance Analyst is expected to have knowledge of IFRS accounting standards and guidelines. This position will also be responsible for the adherence to all Key
SOX and Key Non SOX Controls, as well as implementing internal controls or creating new controls when necessary, to ensure the accuracy of monthly recordings and payments. No of AOOs 1
REQUIREMENTS:
Sound financial, accountancy and management information skills with an eye for

The ability to work under pressure and across cultures

Good finance accounting and (Trading) SAP knowledge

Position description - Special Challenges
Understanding of end to end processes surrounding MC process, its interaction with other work streams. -Interpretation and understanding of changes in Group (IFRS) Accounting Policies, and its impact on in-scope activities. -Provide guidance on routine accounting treatment and advising on material accounting treatment in consultation with onshore controller’s team. -Keeping up-to-date with the changes to internal/local/global business model and environment with the ability to translate impacts to in-scope activities to effectively manage operational deliveries with no/minimal impact. -Metrics performance management and drive Top Quartile metrics performance. Drive top quartile metric performance when many activities are dependent on other teams/processes. -Take pride in delivering quality work and implement constructive improvement in processes. Proactive, independent and resourceful in managing changes. - Ability to review, develop and implement mid-term to long term organizational plan for the team in addressing anticipated changes and risks with objective of sustaining operational performance and growth. - Sustain high motivation level with in teams, which operate under tight deadlines to meet stakeholder requirements.
Developing and sustaining effective staff engagement. - Maintain good working relationship with multiple stakeholders. - Manage the high impact of change management during implementation of projects. -Contributing to the successful operations of a virtual centre and building successful work relations with colleagues elsewhere in Shell Finance Operations. -Managing a wide variety of stakeholders, in different locations, competing priorities and varying views -Active participation in the Insight to win program
Experience and Qualifications required
Graduate / Post Graduate in Accounting / Finance 7 Years of experience in Accounting. Experience in Group Reporting activities and knowledge of Trading companies will be an added advantage. Strong accounting knowledge to work through issues and assess the strength of the internal control framework Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills Good organizational skills with ability to succeed under tight deadlines Ability to work effectively in a team environment to harness abilities and accomplish goals Proficiency in various Microsoft software products Should be good in systems and applications. Good negotiation/collaboration skills to work through difficult situations Ability to perform and drive responsibilities independently
