GENERAL SUMMARY:
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (BWH) Department of Medicine is recruiting a part time (20 hours a week) Research Finance Manager for the Greater Boston COVID-19 Recovery Cohort (BCRC). The BCRC is comprised of patients cared for at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (BWH), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), Boston Medical Center (BMC), Tufts Medical Center (TMC), and Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), and their affiliated community hospitals and health centers. The incumbent will be essential to the research operations of the BWH BCRC and will be an integral member of the greater Boston team.
Boston experienced an early surge of COVID-19 cases beginning March 2020, which disproportionately impacted communities with socioeconomic and systemic inequities, including a large proportion of Black and Hispanic patients cared for at our centers. The BCRC harnesses extraordinary clinical infrastructure, extensive biorepositories, and deep community engagement at the six major academic health centers serving Eastern Massachusetts who have cared for inpatients and outpatients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
The Research Finance Manager will work directly with the BCRC Project Director and Division Administrator for the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the BCRC research portfolio and serves as the primary financial resource for research administrators and Principal Investigator.
Responsible for monthly fund monitoring including: Ensure that award is managed in a fiscally responsible manner and in full compliance with all applicable rules and regulations established by the sponsor and Mass General Brigham (MGB).
Actively monitor grant expense, receivables, and revenue and ensure that all expenses posted to sponsored project are allowable and accurate.
Review monthly payments from prime award, New York University (NYU).
Reconcile milestone payments for each subcontract site and issue payments quarterly.
Perform monthly review and analysis of actual to budget variances and forecasting, and reports to management as needed.
Prepare and process journal entries and cost transfers in a timely manner.
Assist with the development and submission of various requests to the sponsor, including carryforward and rebudgeting requests.
Assist in the close-out of funds including the review of final invoices, financial reports, and closing entries.
Manages any consulting or vendor agreements and subsequent payments related to BCRC award.
Manages salary allocated to BCRC award. This function includes data entry and analysis in multiple institutional and divisional systems. The Finance Manager must ensure all systems are kept in sync. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, entering Salary Data Changes, Merit Reviews, and Special Payments into the PeopleSoft system
Assists with annual BCRC budget development process
Assists with strategic analysis in support of business decision-making
Effectively communicates with internal and external constituencies
Assists with or leads projects and other analytical assignments on an ad hoc basis
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional financial and accounting skills and advanced Excel skills required; experience using other accounting, financial, or statistical software helpful. Must possess excellent judgment and an ability to maintain confidentiality. Must demonstrate ability to be organized and flexible in an environment that requires continuous monitoring of priorities. Additional requirements include enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, results-driven environment; exceptional attention to detail and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Bachelor's degree required.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Computer skills and financial/accounting skill as described above, required. Must demonstrate strong organizational, administrative, time management, and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Requires excellent interpersonal and management skills, with facility to interact professionally at all levels and plan and initiate new activities. Ability to work both independently and as part of the growing team is essential.
