Profile

A captive is a wholly-owned insurance company that is established to enable an entity to effectively manage their risk. The role of the Captives practice is to then manage the captive once an entity has established it. The Captive Accountant will work assisting the team in producing accurate and pertinent financial and accounting information on a timely basis to enable the Captive Boards to make informed decisions. This will include liaising with the parent company, insurance regulator, directors, and service providers in respect of the above.

The Role


Assist the Practice Leader and Captive Manager with policy administration, documentation and client underwriting decisions
Finance:

Maintain cash books
Reconcile bank accounts
Monthly posting of bank and investment transactions
Monitor cash requirements
Liaise with and monitor investment managers in respect of invested funds
Production of management and statutory accounts under supervision.
Assist the team in all financial reporting to the client.
Deal with audit enquiries from both internal and external auditors

Governance:

Attend board meetings as required
Assist in the production of board packs
Take minutes at meetings if required
Produce action points list
Prepare the necessary documents to fulfil secretarial functions
Monitor compliance with Corporate Governance
Assist Practice Leader in obtaining regulatory and board approvals for business plan changes


The Requirements


Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
Ideally 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience, including experience in activities including general accounting, financial analysis and reports
Possess, or be working towards, relevant professional qualifications
Sound knowledge of organisational accounting procedures
Ability to analyse and communicate financial information
Good interpersonal skills – comfortable dealing directly with clients
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good presentation skills
Compliance knowledge
Advance computer skills including sound knowledge of accounting software and spreadsheet programmes
