What’s the role?

B2C Portfolio manager is the architect responsible for delivering solution designs to IT and digital systems for Mobility business. These solutions need to be fit for purpose within the portfolio, have technical integrity, the right TCO (total cost of ownership) through its life cycle and a good fit with the IT technology direction of Shell. The resultant High-Level Design have a measurable impact on the effectiveness and profitability of Shell.

You are responsible for providing solution architecture development, consultancy and assurance to projects, making sure applications are well designed and conform to Shell standards and reference/segment architectures. The Solution Architect is accountable for the architecture of a solution being developed and implemented until the successful deployment of the solution. This includes:


Being the point of call for all architecture aspects of an IT Project, product or platform. Being able to address and integrate the: Business Process, Data, Application, Technical and Information Security aspects of an IT Solution. Ensure projects solution architecture is documented using the templates, System Architect tooling and conforms to standards. Coach detailed designers and business analysts in projects during their design work. Reviewing and accepting the detailed design of an IT solution. Support Segment Architects and reviews through the Architecture Review Board as required.
Take an active role in documenting, improving & maintaining the Reference Models in Systems Architect. Lifting project deliverables to the Conceptual and Logical levels.
Lead in designing, specifying and selecting information system solutions, considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure and performance.
Follow IT Technology developments in the market and leverage this knowledge in architecting solutions in Shell. Ensure solutions are ‘future-proof’
Stay in touch with development of standards and standard services in IT at Shell. To ensure the latest service developments are taken into account.
Pro-actively contribute to the development of the Architecture community and be an ambassador for Architecture. Interact with stakeholders on architecture issues and strategic improvements where such expertise is required.
Liaison with IT Managers for Estimated cost and prepare business cases for IT solutions.
Work with Segment architects, Data architects and infrastructure architects for Reusable strategic product solution, data security and governance and infrastructure, licenses, development and support respectively.


What we need from you


Hands-on solution-design experience in any popular cloud platform is mandatory.
Solid foundation around cloud-based data ingestion, data storage, data processing, data archival, backup, replication, retention, data removal concepts are essential.
Clear understanding of fundamentals and differences in solution design around PaaS, IaaS, SaaS and how common functional capabilities – data ingestion, data storage, data processing, component security, access control evolve around each of these patterns.
Adherence to various security best practices, industry standard regulations, security specific controls, legal implications to enterprise scale cloud-based solution is essential.
Experience in cloud-based component design, configuration, security design, Design of Role Based Access Controls will be required.
Experience cost optimization strategies, performance optimization strategies, security strategies, data access management strategies, backup-recovery strategies on cloud-based solution will be required.
Solid hands on implementation knowledge of integration architecture using industry standard integration technologies to build enterprise scale ETL framework for the scenarios of on-premise to cloud, cloud to cloud, cloud to on-premise, cloud to external.
Experience in design patterns to integrate and manage data from diversified sources in various modes- batch, real-time, near real time.
Very clear concept around usage of cloud-based protocols, tools, services depending on various business requirement, in alignment to cost and budget, will be essential.
Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to lay audiences. Some experience of with working with board level stakeholders.
Ability to develop solution architecture designs. Experience in designing data flow patterns.
Experience of developing Services Orientated Architectures (SOA)& Micro Services.
Experience in Functional Mapping of Business Processes and Product features.
Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies such as TOGAF or the equivalent.
Experience of working in IoT (Internet of Things) based solution architecture will be given additional preference.
Understanding of Device Management, Device provisioning, Device Enrollment, Edge Device related security architecture and connections patterns will be useful.
A minimum of 8 years in a professional senior technical role such as technical lead, team lead, architect, or other hands on leadership role ideally for a major consultancy or system integrator.
Strong background in integration architecture & implementation of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).
Articulate benefits of digital architectures and their benefits by drawing comparisons against the current state architecture.
Comfortable with designing RESTful APIs.
Ideally formal qualification in Enterprise Architecture (e.g. TOGAF) or formal qualifications in technology.
