Job Description:
Become a leader in the Energy Transition!
If you are intrinsically driven to make a difference in the Energy Transition, this is a pivotal role to set and implement direction for our Renewables and Energy Solutions (RES) business and portfolio in Europe.
Where You Fit In
The RES group in Shell is focused on leading in the energy transition towards a low-carbon future through power and hydrogen, supporting our aim to power progress together through more and cleaner energy solutions.
We aim to become the decarbonization partner of choice of our customers, and we will work backward along the value chain to deliver. Shell 2030 targets are very ambitious: becoming a leading provider of clean power-as-a-service. We also aim to develop integrated clean hydrogen hubs to serve industry and heavy-duty transport, achieving a double-digit share of global clean hydrogen sales.
A big part of that growth will be in Europe, and we aim to have a significant market share in our core European markets, becoming a top competitor. To deliver on the challenge, we will have to significantly scale up in all three positions, in all markets, both organically & inorganically, through partnerships and leveraging third-party investments.
The Portfolio Development team in RES Europe is accountable for leading the development of our Power strategy in the region, for playing an integrator role across our European businesses, including Trading, and for developing and maintaining a healthy portfolio funnel. In this role, you will be contributing towards these three objectives, helping shape our organic and inorganic growth in Europe across the whole power value chain, from generation to marketing.
What is the Role?
As a Strategy and Portfolio Manager in the Portfolio team, you will be instrumental in defining our Power strategies for our European core countries, driving integration across the value chain, and defining and executing the growth of our RES portfolio in Europe. More specifically, your role will include:
Leading the development of Country Power Strategies for our core countries, in close collaboration with our businesses along the value chain. Build a shared vision and develop actionable roadmaps to guide integrated growth.
Playing an integrator role, identifying and enabling the delivery of integrated value. Working across the European businesses, product and marketing teams, portfolio capabilities, and global centers of excellence to provide fresh insights into value creation and potential synergies, both long term and near term.
Contributing to our portfolio growth through the identification of portfolio gaps and inorganic opportunities to cover them, and in so doing define key criteria for opportunity scouting and refine assessment methodology for potential targets. Playing a role for Europe in support of the central deal team(s).
Monitor and communicate competitive insights along the value chain to support benchmarking, cost competitiveness, efficiency, and dynamic “outside-in” market perspective.
Leading deep dives on topics identified as priorities, e.g. demand/supply analysis, identifying new business opportunities, digital journey, power as a service, cost competitiveness, organization capabilities, etc.
What we need from You
You will build a shared vision among diverse parts of the organization and align them to work together towards a common goal. Your strong leadership, your collaborative style, and your strategic thinking will make the difference.
Furthermore, you will have:
An energy background with strong experience in power is a must. Preference for experience in strategy, trading, origination, digital, M&A, business development, marketing, and sales, or finance.
Proven track record of strategy development, incl. market and portfolio analysis, value chain analysis, setting objectives in order to grow and improve the business as well as carrying out necessary planning for delivery. Ability to articulate complex themes into meaningful narratives supported by data and insight. Ability to work at the bigger picture level as well as focus on the details.
A Commercial mindset to seek out near and long-term value, using customer and market insights. External focus. Financial acumen. Strong analytical skills to be able to work with a large amount of data and conflicting insights, new technologies, and interdependencies.
Superb executive-level communications/presentation capability, able to represent the region across both internal and external forums
Experience leading teams and natural collaborative style to seamlessly work across teams, navigating businesses, functions, organizational levels - it will be essential to build and maintain strong, productive relationships with Strategy peers, business leaders, M&A and Finance teams, both regionally and globally.
Masters’ degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or related field. MBA is a plus. Strong performance track record.
