Budget Director
in the
UM Budget Office
. This position plays a pivotal role in financial and budgetary development and policy making though the creation of accurate revenue and budgetary forecasts, procedures, and accurate analytical reports. The Budget Director reports to the AVP of Business Operations and Finance. This position currently supervises one (1) contract professional employee, and would be responsible for hiring and supervising any future staff. This position requires a high degree of independence and decision-making regarding project management, and requires coordination with a wide array of people, committees, processes, and procedures across the University system.
Under general direction, the Budget Director provides leadership and support of to all budget operations of the institution. This position collaborates closely with the AVP of Business Operations and Finance and executive leadership to analyze the complex factors that influence the institutions financial stability. The Budget Director is responsible for the development and administration of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (UM) budget, as well as the creation of various reports and analysis used to identify resources and create an institutional environment necessary to support best practices in business operations.
The Budget Director is accountable for providing leadership and facilitating the development of policies, procedures, departmental, and unit guidelines, and accomplishes such in coordination with the UM mission and university-wide goals and initiatives as a central focus. The Budget Director ensures regulatory compliance for all activities relating to budgetary requirements for the institution, in accordance with State of Montana, Montana University System, and MT Board of Regent’s policies.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is $100,000 - $110,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Skills
Ability to forecast and manage budgets for a large, complex business organization;
Ability to understand and communicate the complex structure, operations, budgets, and finances involved in higher education, and the interdependencies between the fund groups;
Ability to provide leadership and support for the administration of all fund’s budgets, budget development and management;
Ability to translate University and System-wide strategies and priorities into strategic and operational plans and policies for campus and affiliate needs;
Ability to partner across the University locally and externally, with the affiliate and system campuses to develop strategies and plans to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.;
Ability to develop and implement ongoing improvements and enhancements to the budgetary planning, administration, and related business processes.
Ability to represent **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. on various state-wide committees and user groups;
Ability to lead and manage; to motivate and empower others to achieve priorities and expectations and to influence others regarding the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Administration, officials, staff, and students and to maintain professionalism and respect for confidentiality;
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
Knowledge of higher education and state accounting procedures, policies, and regulations;
Knowledge of Banner software and Syntellis Axiom budget software.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; along with progressively responsible experience in fiscal or budget management in an institutional setting, preferably in higher education.
Experience in a diverse range of actions such as budgeting, accounting, strategic and capital planning.
Experience with fund accounting at a research university.
