Shell’s Sector Decarbonization organization leads the relationship with some of the largest global customers in the key sectors driving the energy-transition. With this sectoral approach, we develop deep understanding of the specific needs and guide Shell’s efforts to develop the appropriate offering of technology and solutions to enable their efficient de-carbonization.

As part of Commercial Innovation team, you will conceptualize, test, and develop new contractual and commercial solutions to adapt products and technologies to the specific needs and situations of our customers, maximizing the value generated to all parties.

Renewables Business Model Innovation Manager

What is the role?

The role will be to act as a renewable power commercial expert engaging with customers to identify their most challenging constraints to de-carbonize.

You will keep yourself aware on the latest developments in the industry, the most innovative new models applied in the PPA and energy solutions space and develop a deep understanding on how Shell operates and the capabilities we already have and those we are building for the future.

Through the development of customer insights, deep industry awareness and realistic understanding of Shell, you will conceptualize alternative commercial solutions, business models and contractual structures that could differentiate us, solve complex customer problems, and in general add more value.

Leveraging our analysts teams and digital tools, you will test the new ideas through modeling, and engage with our broader organization to assess their feasibility. Alongside the account managers, you will then negotiate with customers co-development and piloting opportunities, and finally help scaling the successful new solutions into our portfolio.

The Commercial Innovation – Business Model Innovation Manager will be instrumental in the development of the foundations of Commercial Innovation and the development of new business models for Shell that will enable the organization to differentiate, increase market share in energy solutions, and more critically increase the value added to our customers.

Commercial Innovation as a function will succeed through the development of tools and processes that enable a change in the commercial attitude of Shell, from a commodity, product driven and transactional approach, towards customer centric, solutions development. To enable bridging the gap from where we are to where we need to be, we need faster and higher volume of exchange and interaction between our customers, across different regions, sectors and business, and the ability to summarize their more urgent needs, success criteria, and ideate innovative new approached to solve, test them fast, and iterate until we find a successful option.

Accountabilities:


The role will be a Subject Matter Expert in power transactions, PPA, energy solutions business models. To bring value, it will require constant self-actualization, learning mindset, connection with the industry and different sectors leading the energy transition to maintain an edge and constantly bring the latest, more relevant insights on this space to Shell.
This role shall help others innovate. Through influence and the development of the right communications and engagement approach, you will create an active community of commercial innovators and facilitate origination of innovative commercial ideas, support their evaluation and modeling, and adapt successful new business models and solutions.
You will focus in adding value to our global customers. Through expert engagement, deep dive into the customer’s explicit and implicit needs, research, and analysis, you will build credibility and trust with our key customers, in coordination with the account managers, to build Shell’s position as a preferred partner for their energy transition. Your role, as a commercial innovator, is to identify needs where our products and solutions do not add optimal value, and work with the organization to transform the situation and offer an alternative solution that maximizes customer value and differentiates Shell.


What we need from you


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering Management, or similar fields or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum of 10 or more years of experience in commercial strategy development, business model innovation, competitor analysis, deal structuring, commercial modeling, or relevant consultancy projects.
Strong communication skills, public speaking, experience managing workshops, generating internal communication material, engaging stakeholders, and developing ways of working and communication channels for complex organizations.
Experience in analyzing complex commercial structures and contracts, using business model generation tools such as BM Canvas, monitoring regulatory and market drivers and their impact in business models. Experience working with analysts, marketing teams, consultants, and using market intelligence sources.
Proven capability to work in highly ambiguous environments. Must be self-motivated and capable of setting and executing a strategy to accomplish goals (including measurement of performance). Outstanding capabilities to summarize and highlight the most relevant message in complex communications. Able to adapt the communication to different audience, educate and build on the capabilities of the different stakeholders.
Decisive and good in setting priorities to decide what to do and the order in which it gets done – being able to balance the impact of new initiatives vs. the need to improve the details of ongoing processes.
