The GSR & Revenue Accounting manages combined operations of billing and settlement for Group Services & Recoveries, Global Charges, Retailer Billing, Wetstock, Fleet Cards Accounting and Manual 3rd Party invoicing. It is an agile and evolving organization having proximity to multi-dimensional business growth and Energy Transition as well as changing business needs across Shell businesses.
The role is part of the Revenue and Cards Accounting operations in delivering priorities aligned with the downstream business, with focus on emerging business models including EV.
The Cards US team manages over $45 billion annual card sales and $90 million annual C5 margin. US comprises almost 60% of total global retail consumer and commercial card sales and almost 90% of total North America card sales. Shell TapUp (US1D) is a new and emerging business model offering a mobile fuelling service that fuels direct to customers’ vehicle, fleet of vehicles, tanks and construction equipment. It handles fuelling so that drivers can avoid driving the extra miles to the gas stations. The growth in the US market will also be marked by the incoming Instafuel merger which is a Houston, Texas- based mobile fuel delivery service for fleets. Instafuel Merger is a combined resources of Instafuel and Shell TapUp to expand mobile fuelling services to cover 75% of the US population.
Purpose:
The Revenue Accounting Senior Analyst is expected to deliver operational and control excellence by building a sound understanding of the business we support, how it translates to our process in Finance Operations and how the transactions interface in the tools and system that we use.
Accountabilities:
The role will have a mix of deliverables primarily covering accounting and balance sheet reporting to ensure that business transactions are accounted for in compliance with Shell and external accounting guidelines. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
Accurate and timely preparation of calculations, processing of transactions and journal entries and execution of controls using “First Time Right” mindset and critical thinking; these transactions include: credit card, gift card, prepaid card, loyalty, rebates, discounts, merchant service fees, revenue share, fraud, etc.
Preparation and analysis of card issuer reconciliations to ensure that financials are properly accounted for
Investigation of imbalances in the reconciliations to identify the issue, root cause and propose corrective actions
Analysis of assigned balance sheet accounts (including high-risk accounts) in accordance with SOAR guidelines and provide commentaries for variance/fluctuation analysis
Observance of proper escalation procedures (to the Specialist and Team Manager) as deemed necessary to ensure timely and proper resolution of issues and other concerns
Ensure that daily activities are performed in a timely manner and to ensure business continuity for critical activities
Understand the business context of the transactions which they perform, as enabled by working closely with the Specialist, Team Manager, and onshore business partners
Understanding the feeder-and-receiver processes of Cards Finance, which is a key enabler in working collaboratively across different functions such as Cards Operations onshore, Retailer Billing, Reporting & Analysis, and Manage Indirect Tax, among others.
Obtain a working knowledge on various interface systems that support the Cards business
Approaching the process with a Continuous Improvement mindset to identify non-value-added activities and propose possible solutions to bring more efficiency or effectiveness to the process
Accurate and timely preparation of reports that aid decision-making by the business and address inquiries from stakeholders and business partners
Assisting to address internal and external audit inquiries by performing walkthroughs and providing requested evidences.
Work collaboratively within the team and support the Specialist and Team Manager in delivering other team priorities/projects/initiatives in alignment with business and process goals
Special Challenges:
The Cards US portfolio involves a high-risk and high-value accounting area with sales value reaching as high as $4 billion per month; it also involves unique and peculiar contractual arrangements that require keen analytical skills and attention to detail.
Exceptional levels of accuracy and control are essential to protect against the risk of financial misstatements. The ability to establish a solid understanding of the processes and how it translates to financials is a key requirement for this role.
Having more direct interface with business partners is a new element of the role
Shell Tap Up is a new emerging market and with the Instafuel merger, the process that will be established will be very new and would need to be fine-tuned over the course of several months. The ability to establish effective working relationships with new stakeholders would be one of the special challenges to the role.
Part of the role is a backlog recon clean-up for Shell Tap which is a project-based activity that will run for 6 months.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year working experience in a relevant field i.e., audit/assurance, accounting, finance
Must be a graduate of Accountancy or any other Accounting-related course such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, or Accounting Technology
Strong financial acumen
Preferably with SAP experience
Advanced working knowledge in Excel
Demonstrated analytical skills and critical thinking
Ability to learn quickly
Strong work ethic and resilience
Communication and interpersonal skills
Shift: 3PM to 12AM (Manila Time)
