Purpose of Role
The production accountant role will be a blend between production management and accounting. This person will be the intermediary between production and accounting to make sure both needs are met. They will work alongside inhouse production manager to support freelance teams while reconciling wraps to make sure GAAP and internal standards are upheld. The role will be 60% production and 40% accounting with room to grow within both areas. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience within the entertainment accounting industry.
Background of the Role
London Alley has undergone rapid growth in the last few years and has decided to bring the accounting and finance department inhouse. Both departments were previously outsourced to a 3rd party vendor thus leading to the need for the right candidate to assist the Financial Controller. The right candidate will gain first-hand experience as to what it takes to build a department from the ground up. The candidate must be knowledgeable and demonstrate the willingness and confidence to handle queries from colleagues, vendors, freelancers, and clients without the need for micromanagement. The Financial Controller will be guiding and assisting in the development of the Production Accountant along the way.
Main Responsibilities
Assisting freelance production teams with all accounting related inquiries
Reviewing and reconciling wraps in terms of budget to actual, AP and processing production timecards
Credit card reconciliation
Participate in the quarter close cycle, ensuring all cutoffs and deadlines are met and that the monthly results are accurate.
Create journal entries, credit memos, and reconcile accounts as needed.
Strong attention to detail when reconciling accounts including credit cards, client records, etc.
Strong project management skills
Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP
Work on ad-hoc projects and reports as requested.
Willingness to learn all aspects of accounting (A/P, A/R, FP&A, Production Management, etc)
Skills and Experience
Ability to adapt in a fast-changing environment and contribute regularly to process improvement changes
Ability to interface with various levels across various departments within the company in a professional manner
Bachelor's degree in Finance and/or Accounting
Advanced command of Excel is essential
Experience with SAP accounting software
Experience in production
Must know production terminology, experience processing payroll (union & nonunion timecards)
Hot budget and AICP knowledge a plus
Experience and/or desire to work in the entertainment industry
