Job Description:

If you are passionate about new business models and commercial innovation applied to the energy transition, experienced in dealing with techno-economic models, valuation of renewable assets, energy markets forecasts, energy deal structuring, and contractual and financial modeling digital tools, this is a pivotal role at the forefront of helping customers reach their decarbonization goals and bringing value to the Shell Group.

Where you fit in

Shell’s Sector Decarbonization organization leads the relationship with some of the largest global customers driving the energy-transition. With this sectoral approach, we develop deep understanding of the specific needs and guide Shell’s efforts to develop the appropriate offering of technology and solutions to enable their efficient de-carbonization.

As part of Commercial Innovation team, you will manage our modeling capabilities, to enable the simulation of complex, innovative contractual structures around power procurement, energy solutions, and new business models. We seek to iterate fast using advanced modeling practices and digital tools, to identify and develop new commercial solutions that can generate additional value to our customers in terms of costs, carbon reduction, and risk mitigation.

What’s the role?

The Energy Solutions Modelling Manager will be instrumental in the development of the foundations of Commercial Innovation and the development of new business models for Shell that will enable the organization to differentiate, increase market share in energy solutions, and more critically increase the value added to our customers.

Commercial Innovation as a function will succeed through the development of tools and processes that enable a change in the commercial attitude of Shell, from a commodity, product driven and transactional approach, towards customer centric, solutions development. To enable bridging the gap from where we are to where we need to be, we need faster and higher volume of exchange and interaction between our customers, across different regions, sectors and business, and the ability to capture how they see the solutions we offer in terms of relevant metrics affecting their business.

The role will act as Product Owner responsible of leading the development and implementation of digital tools that enable creation, modeling, simulation, and sharing of new commercial structures, and business models, for complex energy procurement transactions and energy solutions.

Once we will have an MVP for these new digital tools, you will act as a Master User, continue to drive their improvement and development, using, and training others to use them, to model our new business ideas.

You will keep yourself aware on the latest developments in the industry, the most innovative models applied in the PPA and energy solutions space and develop a deep understanding on how to translate contractual, financial, commercial and market realities into a faithful and robust digital model.

To drive the development of the tools, you will engage with the Shell IT community, through Agile processes, develop the product backlog, validate new features, and prioritize development work with the Product Managers, Data Scientists and other teams involved in the project.

Accountabilities:

The role will be a Subject Matter Expert in power transactions and energy markets modelling. To bring value, it will require constant self-actualization, learning mindset, connection with the industry and different sectors leading the energy transition to maintain an edge and constantly bring the latest, more relevant insights on this space to Shell.
This role shall help others innovate. Through influence and the development of the right communications and engagement approach, you will create an active community of modelling experts and analysts and facilitate the use of the new digital tools we are building for commercial modelling, support their onboarding and training process, and drive the development of the tools to meet their growing needs.
You will focus in adding value through the development of scale-able tools and modeling practices. You will be responsible to define how a conceptual business idea translates into data, calculations and hypotheses that generate reliable metrics that represent how the business opportunity will reflect the value added to our customers and to Shell.

What we need from you?

We’re keen to speak from individuals with extensive experience in using commercial, pricing or techno-economical complex modeling tools for energy markets:

Strong financial modeling understanding and analytical capabilities.
Fluency on power market fundamentals, tariffs, and market commercial drivers. Strong understanding of renewable energy, decarbonization and corporate sustainability concepts, such as additionality, 24/7 procurement models, offsets, certificates…
Good understanding of power purchase agreements, physical and virtual, and capability to conceptualize different models and structures.
Ability to translate complex power transaction language in a way that is accessible for non-expert teams.
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or similar fields or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Proven capability to work in highly ambiguous environments. Must be self-motivated and capable of setting and executing a strategy to accomplish goals (including measurement of performance). Outstanding capabilities to summarize and highlight the most relevant message in complex communications. Able to adapt the communication to different audience, educate and build on the capabilities of the different stakeholders.
Decisive and good in setting priorities to decide what to do and the order in which it gets done – being able to balance the impact of new initiatives vs. the need to improve the details of ongoing processes.

We also hope you possess the following skills and experience related to digital tools:

Experience in acting as a Product Owner in an Agile environment would bring added value.
Basic understanding of software development cycle (especially web-based apps)
Experience in preparing product roadmaps, features descriptions and writing business requirements in the form of user stories
Strong communication skills, public speaking, experience managing workshops, generating internal communication material, engaging stakeholders, and developing ways of working and communication channels for complex organizations.
