What's the role?

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the value delivery of technology development scope enabled through product management across a subset of an IT business portfolio, or its full extent (as directed by the ITGM) aligned to clusters of applications. The Portfolio Manager collaborates with corresponding business stakeholders to ensure that technology development is correctly structured to enable the target business vision, roadmap, and fulfils agreed KPIs irrespective of technology and associated lifecycles. He or she has full oversight to TCO and orchestrates associated activity for EOL. He or she manages risk and compliance to Enterprise IT standards across their scope, raising and managing escalations across the broader IT organisation, where required, driving these to resolution. He or she ensures that demand is correctly managed and corresponding capability requests raised and fulfilled in a timely manner, working across the Business Facing Natural Team to guarantee fulfilment.

Responsibilities:

Delivery Management & Assurance:

Orchestrates and administers development lifecycles corresponding to the in-scope technology stack for performance against agreed KPIs in line with business vision and roadmap. Drives fulfilment of agreed value yields from technology development and successfully manages demand across lifecycles, sourcing and requesting capability from across the organisation in line with Enterprise processes. Manages budgets appropriately and in line with business plans. Manages escalations, where required, to resolve fulfilment issues, orchestrating their resolution across organisational boundaries, where required.

Value Generation & Protection:

Ensures the delivery of value outcomes by applying investment discipline to IT expenditure and rigour in benefits realisation. Intervenes and escalates to senior leadership where return on investment is not being realised driving decision making on the resolution roadmap. Demonstrates significant commercial skill, role modelling behaviours that emphasise commercial mindset, customer centrism, and competitive differentiation. Seeks opportunities to commercialise data and means of realising development efficiencies through automation across the in-scope technology stack.

Stakeholder Management:

Drives a One Team mindset; works closely with the IT General Manager, IT Managers, and Product Line Managers (only were operating across the full extent of the IT business portfolio) to understand, align, restructure and shape how development and delivery scope aligns to overarching strategic success goals, Line of Business objectives, and consumer expectations. Agrees business interfaces with the IT GM and manages relationships with vigour and executive presence.

Business Intelligence:

Demonstrates unrivalled understanding of business and consumer including strategic imperatives and desires. Recognises and understands the impact of industry movements, new market entrants/competitor behaviours, and consumer trends. Enables the consumer journey through ruthless focus on development of the right demand that furthers competitive advantage.

Innovation:

Drives the consistent use of innovation methods and data driven insights across technology development teams.

Skills and Requirements

What we need from you -


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Observable IT portfolio management skills (value, demand, budget, lifecycle)
Demonstrated leadership and team enablement skills centred on collaboration and ability to inspire innovation and consumer orientation across teams
Ability to work through complexity and across organizational boundaries to broker agreements and bring together the right capabilities at the right time
Strong commercial mindset enabled by rounded understanding of business, consumer, and technology
Ability to strongly focus on both business value delivery, as well as assessing those technical debt items that require attention, and capable of communicating that value to business stakeholders as well.
Adept at influencing and challenging at senior levels to achieve the right outcomes across business and technology environments
Broad network beyond Shell into peer organisations, technology partners, and thought leaders
Ability to build and lead high performing IT natural teams focused around driving greater business value and recognised across Shell as doing so
Resilience, courage and the willingness to challenge and manage business expectations


Personal Attributes:

• Experience with one or more of the following:


US power markets and protocols
Power plant systems (OSI Monarch, OSISoft PI and PI Vision)
Power plant data communications and infrastructure
Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)


• Strong leader and team player. Able to motivate, collaborate, proactively communicate and share understanding and experience within a team.

• Knowledge and experience working in Agile or Product Delivery Team models.

• Understanding of CICD concepts and how to apply those principles and techniques.

• Keeps up-to-date knowledge of the power industry

• Capable of taking a “fit for purpose” view on process and delivery. Able to eliminate waste and focus on business value delivery.

• Comfortable talking to business users and can translate business needs into tangible user stories or requirements

• Clear communicator and able to work in a multicultural/lingual environment

• Uses best practice analysis techniques but can change approach according to conflicting timelines/risks involved

• Uses initiative and owns their deliverables end-to-end

• Brings ideas to the table, is inquisitive and excited by new technology

• Used to working in a flexible, independent manner on a mixture of small unstructured and large structured items
