Job Description:

This position will appeal to a high potential, broad finance generalist who is looking for the opportunity to further develop his / her commercial and finance skillset in a fast moving and challenging business environment.

Where you fit in

This position offers a challenging opportunity within the Finance Advice unit of Trading & Supply oil trading business (SIETCO) in Singapore, one of the largest businesses within the global Shell Trading Network. The Finance Advice team in Singapore is the key finance interface with the trading business and forms part of a global advisory team that provides finance advice and support to the global trading business.

The team provides structuring and finance advice to a wide range of projects including daily trades, strategic and development activities. This role works closely with the traders, the Trading Management team, Centres of Excellence (CoEs) and third parties.

What’s the role?

The purpose of this position is to ensure that the finance perspective is fully and clearly represented, and that finance advice is sought and provided where necessary, so that risks and rewards are appropriately balanced.

You will be providing professional support to management and traders by playing an active part in financial decision-making processes in accordance with trading authorities. It will require coordination with stakeholders from tax, accounting, treasury, credit, trade finance, finance operations (FO), contracts, legal, compliance and market risk.

More specifically, we will entrust you to:


Deliver the full suite of Finance support (including tax, treasury, accounting, deal structuring and economic modelling) autonomously and coordinate the involvement of CoEs above pre-agreed thresholds.
Independently ensure that a proper functioning control framework is in place and that risks are properly understood, reflected, and managed.
Independently ensure value and risks are made transparent and understood in both decision-making and in performance management.
Ensure a fit for purpose performance management system is in place.
In activities where FO and Business act together to deliver, lead/initiate structural improvement projects and leave the accountability for delivery with the accountable people.
Bring new proposals of high value activities to the Finance Manager who decides on the resource allocation.
Actively look for opportunities to reduce nonvalue adding Finance activity (demand management).
Maximise use of FO in delivery of processes.


What we need from you

We are keen to speak to experienced Finance professionals with the following:


University degree in Accounting or Finance and professional accounting qualification, or equivalent (required).
At least eight (8) years of experience and a proven track record in driving strong business support and performance.
Range of professional experiences should include some key finance competencies.
Namely, risk management (credit, trade finance and market risk) treasury, tax, accounting, deal structuring and trading commodity financing.
Strong business partnering, stakeholder management and communication skills are necessary as the role will require a successful candidate to work independently and develop strong working relationship with people of different seniority, function, and cultures.
