The Sr. Director Flash Array Finance provides full financial support to our Flash Array BU executives and their organizations, participating in and enabling informed decisions that will support continued performance at the highest levels of effectiveness. The Flash Array organization oversees market strategy, pricing, new product development, product transitions, updates, and continued support for our successful FA offering.
Providing Financial support to our Flash Array Leadership team directly, this role plays an essential part in both short-term/tactical and long-term/strategic analysis, collaboration and cross-group coordination of initiatives, as well as data-driven decision making support. This is a very hands-on role.
Typical analysis to include enablement and readiness metrics of field and channel teams, Flash Array Pipeline efficiency, win/loss research, Pricing and Discount strategy, sizing of Total
Available Market and Serviceable Available Market and continue to take on Market Share.
Standard Metrics Reporting
- Drive the design, collection, analysis, and consolidation of key business and financial performance information and operational metrics, as well as various special projects, recurring and ad hoc reporting. Own FlashArray input into the Monthly Metrics deck.
One Interface to Data
- Work across sales operations, sales finance, Marketing Pipeline Council, HR, and Strategy Office (Marketshare) to provide one consolidated interface for data to the FlashArray business unit. Today, at Pure, we have a central Corporate Finance organization as well as a Business Unit Finance focus. There are also other GTM data science and business development team who are in charge of various Bookings analytics, pipeline analysis and projection, market share and competitor analysis for the Total Company. The BU Finance Director is expected to shield the BU from all the different teams and collaborate the analysis beneficial to the Flash Array.
Expense Management
- Ability to fully model Capital Expenditures, and Opex to provide clarity on where the business stands on Opex in real-time in order to help meet the company’s operating margins. Ability to be flexible and reset expense targets based on Quarterly Performance.
Minimize Repetitive Work
- Develop and maintain a financial review rhythm with the business leadership that will enable a predictable and recurring process delivering high visibility into the performance of the key business and financial metrics. This includes building analysis and self-service reporting for metrics that are consistent so the business can pull this information “on-demand”.
Procurement & IT Spend
- Central interface to procurement and IT spend to offload any transactional tasks from the business in the area of procurement as well as IT Spend. Today, the organization does this based on tribal knowledge, but the role will be to create and outline a process and guidelines around how we do this within the BU. The spend can be anywhere from employee morale items like dinner or gifts, to team building events that managers run, to IT contracts such as SaaS tools or R&D IT spending in the data center. We need a formal documented process across how to handle this, and this will be in the scope of the Finance BP to define, and implement.
Contribution P&L
- Ability to build and model out a fully loaded Business Unit P&L with direct and allocated expenses.
Sourcing & Recruiting Interface
- Ensure a consistent bi-directional interface around sourcing and recruiting targets in a dynamic expense environment
Win/Loss Analysis
- Support the product marketing team in quarterly win/loss analysis and ensure consistent methodology across how we look at win/loss.
Own Budget Process
- Drive an end-to-end budgeting program in lockstep with the FlashArray leaders to ensure that all CapEx and OpEx is budgeted for. Understand the key business drivers such that being an embedded member of the FA team creates a minimum amount of work for the FA Leaders, Help Flash Array BU executives manage their budgets in the most efficient way by anticipating needs and influencing correct investment decisions. Ensure this is in lock step with corporate business planning. As a key Finance leader, this person should be able to anticipate business needs and create proposals for initial budget for each BU lead (R&D, PM, and PMM). This Finance person will also need to be able to share company finance constraints around budget planning to ensure prioritization is effective.
Support Forecasting
- Work with the FA leadership team to ensure that expense forecasting is accurate
Cross-Functional Bookings & Pipeline
- Ensure that there is strong interlock across Sales & BU through Sales Finance BP and BU Finance BP to ensure we’re in lock step on targets and assumptions. The role of the BU Finance BP will be to ensure that any analysis the BU does is shared and understood across corporate Sales and Finance teams.
Price Modeling

- Ability to take data, understand the business context and impact, and then tell a story around what the data means and what we should do about it.
