AARP's Operations & Finance Group consists of Business Operations, Business Solutions & Analysis, Controller, Financial Planning and Analysis, Human Resources, Information Technology and Treasury all working together to tackle enterprise-wide operational needs.
The Director,
Finance serves as the primary financial director for the Community, State, and National Affairs team, responsible for $30M in annual operating revenue and a $260M annual operating expense budget. The Director delivers high value integrated solutions, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly close, financial reporting, benchmarking, business case development, and operational analysis. This role provides strategic financial and operational consulting and technical guidance to Executive Leadership. Provides regular guidance on day-to-day work activities for staff and coordinates the work efforts across functional areas to provide the full range of financial support for the business group.
Responsibilities
Serves as the primary financial Director for the Community, State, and National Affairs team.
Provides strategic financial counsel and advisory services to senior leadership.
Delivers high value integrated solutions, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly close, financial reporting, risk and opportunity assessments, benchmarking, business case development, and operational analysis.
Matrix managing a cross-functional business group service team including the controller's office, procurement, legal, and internal operations teams.
Monitors and reports on key business group performance and operational metrics to identify financial and business trends that drive business group management decisions, resource allocation, and operational planning.
Leverages state of the art financial software suite to continuously improve and automate financial reporting and analysis capabilities, including data visualization.
Leads, manages, and develops high performing financial planning team. Provides guidance, feedback, coaching, and training, as necessary.

Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline (advanced degree in Finance highly preferred), and 10 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
Experience managing, developing, and mentoring teams of Accounting & Finance professionals. Excellent oral, written, influence, and interpersonal skills required.
Technical competencies include Financial Planning software tools such as Oracle EPM Cloud (formerly Hyperion), Smart View, and PeopleSoft. Must be an advanced user with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
Requires background in consolidation accounting in addition to a core competency in traditional Financial Planning & Analysis and financial systems. Technical accounting knowledge and exposure (GAAP) preferred. CPA certification not required.
Demonstrated leadership and strategic financial contributions in complex business settings. Experience working with executive and senior management to develop and implement successful strategic financial solutions.
This is a knowledge worker position with no unique physical demands.
Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
