Purpose and Scope:
This position is part of the R&D Finance team that provides services to all Medical Affairs (MA) business units.
This position will work in a matrix environment with multiple key stakeholders, reporting to the Finance Director, R&D Finance MA, based in Northbrook. Key aspects of the role will include:
Business partner with MA, US and MA, Global Heads, managing all aspects of financial planning and analysis at the Regional level for MA, US, and the Therapeutic Area (TA) and Operations levels for MA, Global.
Collaborate with regional and global Therapeutic Area (TA) teams, Core Medical Teams (CMT), and project managers, on core medical planning process and associated financial deliverables.
Support Regional Finance teams to ensure accurate and consistent reporting, driving best practice and standardization.
Collaborate with MA Consolidation team and US Regional Finance to execute MA business reporting and financial analysis for the MA, US Market and MA, Global.
Build an understanding of systems and processes that support the MA, US and MA, Global businesses that can be leveraged to drive efficient data collection and integration for analysis and reporting.
Participate in business change projects improving operational efficiency of the evolving MA, US and MA, Global organizations, helping to implement new solutions.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Business Partnering and reporting for MA, US and MA, Global.
Regular meetings with various stakeholder / budget holders, monitoring progress of planned activities, review results, and forecast upcoming events, issues or risks.
Preparation of monthly strategic review of upcoming and past events in MA, US and MA, Global.
Lead preparation of annual budgets and periodical forecasts within MA, US and MA, Global.
Month end closure and consolidation into MA R&D Finance reporting system.
Timely review and resolution of queries to ensure accurate closure.
Ongoing reviews of accruals to ensure all commitments are accurately captured.
Assist with preparation and reconciliation of management reports as required.
Participate in R&D Finance system initiatives to implement and extend Anaplan for MA reporting in accordance with globalization efforts for MA.
Work closely with R&D Finance TA Reporting Managers to assimilate compound specific business analysis and reporting.
Liaison with other R&D Finance teams in their respective geographic locations to enable a community of sharing and learning across the broader team.
Maintains compliance with J-SOX, internal audit, and other regulatory requirements.
Assist in financial review of purchase requisitions raised for MA, US and MA, Global activities.
Any other ad-hoc tasks as required to support MA, US and MA, Global.
Organizational Context:
The primary business partners of this role are the MA Heads of MA, US and MA, Global, Medical Directors, Core Medial Teams, TA Project Managers and R&D Finance MA Finance members and R&D Finance TA Reporting Managers.
This position is part of the R&D Finance MA Finance team that provides services to all MA business units reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, Medical & Development.
There are roles on the R&D Finance team based at Northbrook, UK, Tokyo, and Singapore. Collaboration and best practice sharing across the R&D Finance team will be expected.
There are complexities associated with this role:
This position will be required to report on activities across the MA, US and MA, Global Regions.
This role must business partner closely with the Americas Regional Finance teams to understand figures and drive process changes required to standardize reporting.
MA has globalized its operating structure and as such, the core tasks of this role are likely to change as the integration of the organization continues.

Qualifications
Required
Undergraduate degree with emphasis in Finance or Accounting
7 years of financial analysis and / or accounting experience, preferably in a multi-national, multi-currency environment
Excellent communication skills, written and oral communication skills in English
Experience working with enterprise grade accounting, reporting and ERP systems (SAP, Hyperion, etc.)
Highly effective interpersonal skills and with ability to operate in matrix environments
Strong analytical excel skills that can turn data into useful information
Confidence and assertiveness to deal with all kinds of people at varying levels of seniority.
Good listening skills to understand and interpret external & internal information needs.
Ability to handle multiple requests/demands, juggle priorities and handle large volumes of data and information.
High attention to detail to ensure accurate high quality of work.
Working knowledge of internal controls and J-Sox, IFRS.
Demonstrated initiative and creativity in pioneering new approaches and ways of working
Established strong teamwork and business partner behaviors
Preferred
Experience supporting biopharma R&D in a finance or planning role
Experience with SAP, Hyperion, and Anaplan.
Experience improving financial planning and reporting activities
Professional finance qualification: CPA, MBA or equivalent
